The document discusses three topics related to computer applications in healthcare: medication monitoring, diagnostic systems, and lab diagnostic systems. Medication monitoring via computer tracks patient information like prescribed drugs and adherence over time. Diagnostic systems evaluate patient symptoms and test results to provide diagnoses. Lab diagnostic systems record and manage clinical test data to aid diagnosis and ensure accurate patient assessment.

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
SEMINAR TOPICS: Medication Monitoring Diagnostic System Lab Diagnostic System :
▪ Computers are also used for effective
medication monitoring in hospitals. ▪ To meet the optimum results of ongoing treatment, monitoring and adherence is essential. ▪ Each and every patient’s complete information regarding prescribed drugs is entered into the computer and this data is maintained in chronological order. TWO TYPES OF MEDICATION MONITORING ARE
➢ PHARMACOKINETICS INFORMATION: These
parameters include volume of distribution, bioavailability, and excretion from body. ➢ It helps analyse drug dosage schedule for the patient. ➢ [OR]
➢ Pharmacokinetics is a science which deals with the
rate of absorption, metabolism , distribution and elimination of drug and its metabolites in the body. ➢ Pharmacokinetics analysis is basically carried out to get information on renal clearance , volume of distribution , metabolic disposition , absorption and multiple dosing of drugs etc.. ➢ NON PHARMACOKINETICS INFORMATION: It includes drug interaction , adverse reaction etc.. ➢ It helps to analyse possibilities of various drug combination that can be administered to the patient. o DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM:
▪ A diagnostic system is a program which is used to
evaluate and analyse a particular problem based on its symptoms , functioning and issues being faced by the person. ▪ In healthcare, such a system is used to provide appropriate diagnosis to any patient. ▪ It starts with the arrival of patient having a chief complaint in the form of discomfort or other symptoms. ▪ Patient’s history is considered well and many times , lab tests or radio-diagnosis is recommended. ▪ A possible diagnosis called Prognosis is given along with the tests . ▪ But these tests are considered important in order to establish appropriate diagnosis. ▪ In todays ’s world , diagnostic systems are widely accepted as they provide faster solution to a problem because one can consult and discuss that problem with the other experts in the same field. ▪ Hence , vast knowledge, experiences and skills of many experts can be put in to practice at one instance to provide accurate diagnosis and best available treatment. ▪ Although most of these systems are generally designed to provide efficient access to medical information, they also include mechanisms for the assessments of clinical and laboratory data and the provision of diagnostic advice. • LAB DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM: • Lab Diagnostic System is a system that records, manages, and stores data related to clinical lab test result of various patients. • Such a system of diagnosis is being used to access clinical diagnosis related to condition of the patient. • A wide range of lab tests are available to diagnose a single problem and such tests are conducted under specified conditions in which clinical values are compared to standard values and results are provided. • Lab diagnostics help clinical pathologist and lab technicians to add value to the care taking physician. ▪ And hence ,they ensure establishment of accurate and most appropriate diagnosis as per condition of the patient. ▪ Lab diagnostics are considered very important these days because they help in early detection of a medical condition which if not diagnosed and treated properly can become a deadly disease. ▪ People are advised to keep a track of their lab diagnostics after 35-40 years of age. ▪ This assures them of keeping healthy eating habits and good health.
