ASSIGNMENT QUESTION / SOALAN TUGASAN

The study of rational numbers at secondary level should build on students prior knowledge of whole-number concepts and skills plus their experiences with fractions, decimals and percentages in primary school as well as in everyday life. For many teachers, the teaching of Fractions, Decimals and Percentages is a major stumbling block. Identify difficulties commonly encountered in teaching Fractions, Decimals and Percentages in Form One. Clarify some issues that must be taken into account such as teacher competency and pedagogical issues in order to resolve the difficulties identified. Suggest ways to help teachers overcome their problems in teaching these topics. Search for relevant supporting literature from various sources. Include the views of two experienced Mathematics teachers apart from your own. Summarise your findings in the form of a written report using a suitable format. (Note: Submit relevant supporting documents including interview questions, References in APA Format, graphic organisers such as concept maps, etc. as Appendices in your report.) (Total: 30 marks)
