What is a Goal ?

● A long term target


● Is the end toward which effort is directed. Goals are dreams and wants except a
goal is more specific.
● Goals keep you focused , increase self - esteem, and help you overcome
procrastination, fear and failure.
● Setting goals will help you become more successful in your career.
Purpose of Goals

The purpose of goals is to give something that you want to enhance your life in some
way , so the most important thing you need to know about goals is that you ought to
have some.
Benefits of setting Goals

• Suffer less from stress and anxiety

• Concentrate better

• Show more self‐confidence

• Perform better

• Are happier
Types of Goals
● Long term goals :

Achieved over long period of time.

● Short term goals:

Which are smaller and can be fulfilled in near future.

● Action Oriented Goal:

Are within our own power to be reached and do depend on external factors or people.

● Outcome based goals:

Are not in your power to be reached because they depend on another person.
Types of Goals

● Long term goals :

10 yr , 5 yr and 1 yr goals.

● Short term goals:

Goals for the next 3 months , 6 months or 9 months

● Immediate goals :

1 - 30 days from now .


Important Aspects of Goal Setting
● Owning the goal :

Each Goal must belong to you.

You need to decide what your goals will be.

● Controlling the goal :

Having the right information when creating goals.

● Setting a time frame for the goal:

Setting a time frame makes the goal measurable. You will know when you have reached your
goal.
How to Set Goals & FRAME

● Learning how to set goals is as important as knowing what the goal should contain.
● What’s important to remember about setting the correct FRAME of mind.

Each letter in the word “FRAME” illustrates the following.

● Fantasize: What kind of person do i want to be ? In 1 year or 2 years.


● Reality: Fantasies become reality depending on how hard you work .
● Aim: Define your goal.
● Method: Don’t be afraid to ask help.
● Evaluation: Process the results, don’t stop , evaluation has to continue.
Qualities of Effective Goals
& SMART Goals
● Before you begin your goal setting process it is important to know what qualities your goals should
embody.
● Effective goals have three important qualities. They are realistic, measureable and reviewed .

Set SMART goals.

● S= Specific : Goals are no place to be vague; ambiguous goals produce ambiguous results
● M= Measurable:If you can't measure it, you can't manage it.
● A= Attainable:Attainable does not mean EASY.
● R= Realistic :Means “do-able”
● T= Timely:Set a timeframe for the goal

● Physical Goals :

Different Types of goals These goals are related to your physical well being of your health .

● Career / Business / professional goals

Where do you want to be in five years from now. In what position you
see yourself.

● Financial goals:

When are you planning your retirement

● Relationship & family goals:

How do you want to improve ?

● Self developmental & spiritual goals

Set goals for improving your attitude.

● Pleasure goals

Set goals for enjoyment and how you are going to spend time for
yourself.

● Social goals : What do you want to do for society.


• The goal was not written down.

Why Goals Fail ? • Rewards for achieving the goals were not given.

• The goal was unrealistic or not specific enough.

• The goal is not really believable or little


commitment exists.

• Keep changing or switching goals with the


weather

• The person who set the goal has not told anyone
else for added accountability, help and support.

• The goal was not incorporated into a realistic


plan that includes measurements, timelines and
resources.
