100 Ω respectively. Determine the total armature power developed when working as,
a) A generator delivering 25 kW output.
b) A motor taking 25 kW input.

2. A 4 pole, 32 conductor, lap-wound d.c. shunt generator with terminal voltage of 200 V
delivering 12 A to the load has Ra = 2 Ω and field circuit resistance of 200 Ω. It is

be run as a motor with the same terminal voltage and drawing 5 A from the mains,
maintaining the same magnetic field, find the speed of the machine.

conductors wave-connected supplying a load of 8.2 kW by taking 45 A from the mains.

4. A 220 V d.c. shunt motor runs at 500 r.p.m. when the armature current is 50 A.

7. A 4-pole, 220-V shunt motor has 540 lap-wound conductors. It takes 32 A from the
supply mains and develops output power of 5.595 kW. The field winding takes 1 A.

speed and (b) the torque.

8. A 4-pole, 240 V, wave connected shunt motor gives 1119 kW when running at 1000

total torque (b) useful torque (c) useful flux/pole (d) rotational losses and (e) efficiency.

9. A 250-V shunt motor runs at 1000 r.p.m. at no-load and takes 8A. The total armature
and shunt field resistances are respectively 0.2 Ω and 250 Ω. Calculate the speed when
