SPC Example 1

This document contains data from measurements of pasta weight (in ounces) over 10 hours from 4 boxes. X-bar and R control charts were created to analyze process variation over time. The X-bar chart shows that the process mean generally stayed within the upper and lower control limits. The R chart indicates that the process variation was in control throughout. Process capability was also analyzed, showing that the process mean was more than 3 standard deviations away from the upper and lower specification limits, indicating a capable process with low defect rates.

Process Capability asks where is your process mean Xbarbar with respect to your customer required limitsin particula
Process Capability does not care about where your upper and lower COTROL
limits
Customers have specified an Upper TOLERANCE or SPECIFICATION limit of 65
Customers have specified an Lower TOLERANCE or SPECIFICATION limit of 63
process mean Xbar 64.15

We define a capable process, as one where the Xbar is at least 3*Stdev away from BOTH UTL&LTL

Upper Gap(UTL-Xbarbar)= 0.86

Lower Gap(Xbarbar-LTL)= 1.15
