.A naval aircraft is powered by a turbojet engine, with provision for flap blowing. When
landing at 55 m/s, 15 per cent of the compressor delivery air is bled off for flap blowing and
it can be assumed to be discharged perpendicularly to the direction of flight. If a propelling
nozzle area of 0-13 m2 is used, calculate the net thrust during landing given that the engine
operating conditions are as follows
Compressor pressure ratio 9.0
Compressor isentropic efficiency 0.82
Turbine inlet temperature 1275K
Turbine isentropic efficiency 0.87
Combustion pressure loss 0.45bar
Nozzle isentropic efficiency 0.95
Mechanical efficiency 0.98
Ambient conditions l bar, 288K
A turbojet is flying with a velocity of 300 m/s at an altitude of 9150 m, where the ambient
conditions are 32 kPa and -32 oC. The pressure ratio across the compressor is 14, and the
temperature at the turbine inlet is 1400 K. Air enters the compressor at a rate of 45 kg/s, and
the jet fuel has a heating value of 42,700 kJ/kg. Assuming ideal operation for all components
and constant specific heats for air at room temperature, determine:
(a) The temperature and pressure at the turbine exit
(b) The velocity of the exhaust gases
(c) The propulsive power developed
(d) The propulsive efficiency
(e) The rate of fuel consumption.
A turbojet engine inducts 50 kg of air per second and propels an aircraft with a flight speed of
