DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH III

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 50 minutes discussion, the learners are expected to do the
following with at least 75% level of accuracy:

a. identify the common punctuation marks;


b. appreciate as to what words mean based on the punctuation marks in
sentences; and
c. use appropriate punctuation marks in a sentence.

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNERS’ ACTIVITY


A. Preliminaries

1. PRAYER

Before we start, kindly lead the


prayer, Dimple. Angel of God, my Guardian dear…

2. GREETINGS

Good afternoon, class. Good afternoon teacher, good afternoon


classmates, good afternoon.

Have you eaten your lunch,


children? Yes, teacher.

But it looks like some of you are a


little sleepy, would you like to be
alive and be awaken? Yes, teacher!

3. ENERGIZER
Okay! Today, we are going to sing
and dance the Punctuation Song!
Everybody please be ready.

Let us all stand and have our little


stretching. (The learners will start to dance the song).

Okay. In 3,2,1, let us dance the


Punctuation Song.

4. CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE

Okay, settle down now class. Pick


up the pieces of papers under your
desk and put those in the trash bin (The learners will pick up and throw the
at the back. trashes on the trash bin).

Okay, please take your seats


because I will now check your
attendance. If your name is called,
instead of saying present, you are
going to say what you feel right
now.

(The teacher will now check the


attendance of the learners).

5. CHECKING OF ASSIGNMENT

6. RECALLING OF CLASSROOM
RULES

Alright, class. When a teacher is in


front of you. There are certain
things that we should do and things
that we should avoid to do. What
are those?  Raise your right hand if you want to
answer
 Avoid talking to your seatmates
 Listen to the teacher diligently.
 Avoid shouting or murmuring
 Should answer in a complete
sentence

Very good! Knowing these things


will help us improve as an individual
and will make us a better person in
the class.

I have here an incentive chart called


“PUNCTUATION CASTLE.” Group
1 is Period, Group 2 is Comma,
Group 3 is Question Mark, and
Group 4 is Exclamation Point. Every
time you will answer in a correct
and complete sentence, you will
gain a red flag worth 10 points. If
you will just answer me correctly but
not in a complete sentence, you will
just gain white flag that is equivalent
to 5 points. But if you do foolishness
in class, your points will be
deducted.

2. Motivation

Now class, before we proceed to


our lesson. Let us have first activity.

Now class, we are going to have a


game. This game is called “SHOW
AND TELL”. I am going to show
pictures. What you are going to do
is to tell me what will be your
reaction if you are in this situation.

A. Activity

Directions: Choose and raise the appropriate symbols based on the sentence
given.

B. ANALYSIS

The teacher will ask questions based on their activity.

1. What are the different punctuations that you encountered earlier?


Ans: The different punctuations that I encountered earlier are period, comma,
question mark, and exclamation point.
2. Look at the pictures, what did you observed?
Ans: I observed that the symbols are different from each other.
3. Why do we use period, comma, question mark, and exclamation point?
Ans: Because it guide us through the ideas expressed in the sentences.
4. Do you have any idea when we are going to use period, comma, question
mark, and exclamation point?
Ans: We will use period if it is used at the end of an indirect question. Comma is
used to separate words clauses, or ideas within a sentence. We will use
Question Mark after a direct question. Lastly, Exclamation point used to show
emphasis or excitement.
5. How can you relate punctuation marks in our daily living?
Ans: We can relate punctuation marks in our conversations by helping us to
express our emotions, thoughts and intentions.
6. Pick one punctuation mark and use this in a sentence.
Ans: Question mark. “What day is today?”

C. ABSTRACTION
Discussion of new topics.

Punctuation marks are symbols that are used to aid the clarity and comprehension
of written language.

PERIOD - it is always located at the end of a complete sentence.


- used at the end of an indirect question.
COMMA - used comma to separate words clauses, or ideas within a sentence.
- Used to separate City from its State.
- Used a comma to separate the day of the month from the year.
QUESTION MARK - used a question mark only after a direct question.
EXCLAMATION POINT – used the exclamation point to show emphasis or
excitement.

D. APPLICATION

Group 1: FORM ME!

Direction: I will show them a picture of punctuation marks. All they need to do is
to form a sentence.

Group 2: I AM PUNCTUATION PIZZA!

Directions: Construct a sentence depending on the pepperoni’s symbol. Write


the sentence at the back of the pepperonis.
Group 3: THIS IS ME!

Directions: Read the story and find at least four sentences that have different
punctuation marks.

Group 4: ACT IT OUT!

Directions: Read then act the sentence.

Sentence 1: I am dancing.
Sentence 2: My favorite hobbies are playing, drawing, and singing.
Sentence 3: What is that your holding? Is that junk foods?
Sentence 4: Yes! I perfect the exam!
D. GENERALIZATION

There are 4 commonly used punctuation marks. What are those?


Ans: Period, Comma, Question mark, and Exclamatory point.

Give one example on the different punctuation marks.


Ans: Are you there?
The flowers are beautiful.
Please hand the knife.
Yey! It’s my birthday tomorrow!

Punctuations marks are symbols that are used to aid the clarity and
comprehension of written language. Punctuations are important because it helps
us to express our emotions, thoughts, and intentions.

Direction: Determine the proper punctuation mark use in the sentence.

Directions: Construct one sentence in each punctuation mark. Write it in your English
