Why the initial

rsrq degradation?
• Reference signal received power
RSRQ – Reference Signal (RSRP), is defined as the linear
Received Quality: Quality average over the power
considering also RSSI and the contributions (in [W]) of the
resource elements that carry cell-
number of used Resource Blocks specific reference signals within
measured over the same the considered measurement
frequency bandwidth.
bandwidth.
• For RSRP determination the cell-
specific reference signals R0
according to TS 36.211 [3] shall be
RSRQ = (N * RSRP) / RSSI used. If the UE can reliably detect
that R1 is available it may use R1 in
addition to R0 to determine RSRP.
rssi 3GPP 36.214

E-UTRA Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), comprises the linear average of the total received power (in [W])
observed only in the configured OFDM symbol and in the measurement bandwidth over N number of resource
blocks, by the UE from all sources, including co-channel serving and non-serving cells, adjacent channel
interference, thermal noise etc.

RSSI – Received Signal Strength Indicator: The carrier RSSI (Receive Strength Signal Indicator) measures the
average total received power observed only in OFDM symbols containing reference symbols for antenna port 0
(i.e., OFDM symbol 0 & 4 in a slot) in the measurement bandwidth over N resource blocks.

RSSI = wideband power = noise + serving cell power + interference power
