Methodology

The study will use a mixed methods descriptive research design to evaluate the impact of the pandemic transition on high school students' mental health and stress levels. Data will be collected through questionnaires adapted from the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 instruments, as well as interviews. A sample of 377 senior high school students from Eveland Christian College will complete the anonymous questionnaires. The responses will then be analyzed using mean scores and thematic analysis to identify trends in students' mental health and stress levels before and during the pandemic transition.

Chapter 3

Methodology

I. Research Design
The study will use a mixed method, also known as a descriptive research
design, which uses both qualitative and quantitative research data. The purpose of
descriptive study design is to provide systematic information regarding a phenomenon.
To fulfill the study's objectives, as well as to evaluate the effects of the pandemic
transition on high school students' mental health and stress levels, this kind of research
design was selected.

II. Data Gathering Procedure

A letter of request will be delivered to the Eveland Christian College school

principal prior to the study's execution. The goals of the study will be explained to the
participants, who will also receive assurances that their identity will be kept private and
that the results would only be used for academic research.
After approval, the researcher will directly give the respondents the
questionnaire. Enough time will be allotted to each respondent to complete the
questionnaire.
The researcher collect the survey questionnaire after it had been distributed.
Additionally, interviews will be conducted to verify and cross-check the study
participants' responses. The researcher will then total, calculate, and examine the
outcomes using the mean for the quantitative part and using thematic analysis for the
qualitative parts.
Further, from the accomplished questionnaires, the data will be tallied,
classified, organized, and presented in a tabular form to facilitate in-depth analysis and
interpretation of data.
For the qualitative part of the study, the key informants were selected and
invited to an interview to solicit ideas and subjective answers for the research.

III. Data Gathering Instrument

The research instrument for this study is a survey test questionnaires and
Interviews designed to assess the impact of the pandemic transition on the mental
health and stress levels of high school students. Specidically, the questionnaires were
adapted from Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Assessment (GAD-7), and Stress Questionnaire. Moreover, a set of unstructured
questions will be utilized in interviews.

Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9)

The Patient Health questionnaire is a self-administered tools for assessing
depression. It incorporates DSM-IV depression criteria with other leading major
depressive symptoms into a brief self-report instrument that are commonly used for
screening and diagnosis, as well as selecting and monitoring treatment. Reliability and
validity of the tool have indicated it has sound psychometric properties. Internal
consistency of the PHQ-9 has been shown to be high.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder Assessment (GAD-7)

The Generalized anxiety disorder assessment is a valid and efficient tool for
screening for GAD and assessing its severity in clinical practice and research. A 7-item
anxiety scale (GAD-7) had good reliability, as well as criterion, construct, factorial, and
procedural validity.

IV. Respondents
The respondents of the study will be senior high school students at Eveland
Christian College. The researchers chose the senior high school students as the
respondents of the study becasues they are ia a period of psychological development, and it
is also the frequent period of a variety of psychological problems. . As shown in table 1, there
will be a total of 377 respondents.
Population Sample
Grade 11 Grade 12 Total Grade 11 Grade 12

STEM 173 120 293 87 66

HUMMS 150 147 297 76 80

ABM 66 63 129 33 35
Total 389 330 196 181
We use Slovin’s formula to calculate the sample size of the study. Slovin's
formula allow the study to sample the population with a desired degree of accuracy. To
obtain the sample size, the following formula was used.

N
n= 2
1+ N e
Where
N= Population size
E= Margin of error(0.05)

The researchers utilized snowball sampling technique for the data gathering of
the quantitative part of the study, it is a non-probability sampling technique where one
of the samples leads on to more kinds of sample. The researchers chose snowball
sampling since it will helps us determine and evaluate samples in the population with
the same circumstances who meets our study’s standard, these sampling technique is
appropriate for these study since our study is mainly on assessing or evaluating the
impact of the pandemic transition on the mental health and stress levels of high school
students it would help us determine participants with the same condition of other
participants by asking them to help in recruiting potential participants who meets our
standard.
