Smart Deivices

This document describes a proposed smart device consisting of glasses and a stick to help blind and deaf users navigate safely. The device would use ultrasonic sensors and vibrating motors in the glasses and stick to detect obstacles and warn the user via vibration. It would also integrate text-to-speech and optical character recognition to further assist the user. The goal is to develop an affordable, personalized assistive technology to help more visually impaired individuals be independent and succeed in various areas of life.

COMPUTATIONAL THINKNG

TITLE: SMART DEVICES FOR BLIND AND DEAF (GLASSES AND STICK).

AIM: Develop and validate a personalized visual assistant that will adapt the
environment of the user (work or living) and encourage them to learn and
succeed in many different fields.

INTRODUCTION:

The number of visually impaired people is growing over the past

decades. As reported by the world health organization (WHO), about
43 million people worldwide and over 15 million in Bharat are blind.
And, according to a survey of 300 legally blind individuals, over 40% of them
experienced accidents at head level at least once a month. However, until
now many schools and jobs cannot accommodate them mainly due
to lack of assistive technologies and economic barriers. As a result,
90% of them still live in low level of income. Even when the new aids
or technologies become available, they are either too expensive
($3000 and above), or affordable ($200) but with single or limited
task functions only.
Smart Glasses and Smart Stick is an interactive device which mainly
aims at helping the blind to navigate easily and in a safer manner. In
a normal day to day situation a blind person waves the blind stick
ahead of them in order to check for any objects or obstacles. The
smart glasses and stick help them in this by detecting if any obstacle
is blocking the path being taken by the subject. The glasses and stick
vibrate on approaching an obstacle. This adds to the safety of the
blind person. Thus using the various technology, the glasses and stick
provides a safer and a better navigation experience for the visually
challenged.
MATERIAL USED:
1. Aurdino Nano (2 pieces)
2. Ultrasonic Sensors (3 pieces)
3. Switches (2 pieces)
4. Vibrating Motor (3 pieces)
5. Connecting Wires (30 pieces)
6. 9V battery (2 pieces)
7. Buzzer (1 piece)

SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS:
Optical Character Recognition (OCR):
Optical character recognition or optical character reader is the
electronic or mechanical conversion of images of typed, handwritten
or printed text into machine-encoded text, whether from a scanned
document, a photo of a document, a scene photo or from subtitle
text superimposed on an image.

Text to Speech Synthesizer (TTS):

Refers to the ability of computers to read text aloud. A TTS engine
converts written text to a phonemic representation, then converts
the phonemic representation to waveforms that can be output as
sound.

PROCEDURES:
1. Take a specs and aluminium stick.
2. Material used in specs aurdino, vibrating motor, ultarsonic
sensors ,switch,9V battery,connecting wires.
3. Then we have to code the aurdinos and attach it with the specs
and ultarsonic sensors.
4. Then connect them with vibrating motor and then this get the
power from 9V battery because it is easily replaceable .
5. This circuit is connected by the switch. Hence, we can on and
off easily.
6. The procedure goes same as specs and we have also added
buzzer which make the work easy for user.

REFERENCES:
The smart glasses for a blind person further comprise: a sensor
assembly disposed in at least one of the following: the front portion
of the frame, the lenses, and the legs of the stick, where in the
sensor assembly is used for detecting the state parameters of the
smart glasses for a blind person.
