What is the fundamental
principle of counting?

Fundamental Counting Principle. If one event can occur


in m ways and another event can occur in n ways, then the
number of ways that both events can occur is m• n.
Let’s go back to the problem earlier:

Your parents gave you two pants, three shirts for your birthday. How
many sets of clothes could you possibly wear with these?
