1.0 INTRODUCTION

The utilization of energy and the enhancement of electric appliance

efficiency is a vital problem that has received a lot of attention in recent years. As
the demand for energy rises, it is critical to discover strategies to lower our energy
use while improving our equipment’s efficiency. This reduces our carbon
footprint and combats climate change, lowers our energy costs, and saves us
money. In this subject, we will look at how energy is utilized in electric
appliances, the importance of energy efficiency, and the tactics that can be
employed to increase energy efficiency in our homes and companies. We will
also cover the most recent technology and ideas being explored to improve energy
efficiency.

Electric equipment, ranging from refrigerators and washing machines to

air conditioners and laptops, play an important part in our everyday life. They do,
however, require a lot of energy, which has a direct influence on our carbon
footprint and energy costs. Electric appliances require different amounts of
energy based on the model, efficiency rating, and how they are utilized.

Energy efficiency refers to an appliance's capacity to use energy efficiently,

which means it requires less energy to complete the same activity as less efficient
equipment. Improving energy efficiency is crucial for lowering energy use and
emissions of greenhouse gases. It also helps to save money by lowering energy
costs and increasing the life of equipment.

4.1 METHODS TO IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY

When energy use is excessive, monthly power expenses are affected. As a

result, the cost of operating this electrical equipment will rise. Here are some
techniques to enhance energy efficiency in the home.

Based on Table 3.1, the most powerful used is steam iron due to its
operation hours and high-power rating, to improve this consumption is:
• Choose an energy-efficient steam iron: Look for an energy-efficient
steam iron. Energy-efficient steam irons use less power and might help
you save money on your utility bills.
• Use the appropriate temperature setting: Set the temperature of the steam
iron according to the fabric. Using a high-temperature setting on a fabric
that requires a low-temperature setting wastes energy and may cause
fabric damage.
Next, for other electrical appliances that are often used, such as a Table
fan and rice cooker, it is better to invest in a higher-star energy efficiency badge
as indicated by (the Energy Commission - Efficient Use of Electricity, 2022).
The higher-star energy efficiency rating can save up to 15% on energy use.

Lastly, there are some other methods that can we use to improve energy
efficiency specifically in Malaysia:

• Use ceiling fans instead of air conditioners: Ceiling fans use less energy
than air conditioners and can help you save money throughout the
summer. To lessen the burden on the air conditioner and conserve energy,
use ceiling fans in combination with it.
• Install solar panels: Because Malaysia receives lots of sunlight all year, it
is a great site for solar electricity. Installing solar panels to generate
electricity and reduce your reliance on the national power grid is an
option.
