"I believe in life, I believe in others, I believe that this story must be fought for
people, I believe in a peaceful country, I believe in democracy, I think what's
happening is that we're in bad hands, I think there's salvation in this."
Jaime Hernando Garzón Forero (Bogotá, October 24, 1960 - Ibidem, August 13, 1999) was
a lawyer, educator, comedian, activist, actor, broadcaster, journalist and Colombian peace
mediator. He served as Junior Mayor of Sumapaz, locality No. 20 of the Capital District of
Bogotá during the administration of
Mayor Andrés Pastrana Arango (1988 -
1990), and did social work on behalf of
the National Government during the
administration of César Gaviria Trujillo
(1990 - 1994).
Jaime Gazón was a great journalist who always fought for honesty and peace in the
villages, not only in the people but also in the high commands of the government.
I think that if he were alive, he would be fighting even more for so many injustices that
occur not only in Colombia but also in different countries. I believe that he would also have
a foundation for the children who do not have the possibility of studying and for those who,
due to lack of opportunities, allow themselves to be led astray.
This foundation would be very recognized since he always knew and learned from a very
young age that the simple fact of studying and reading was the strongest tool to fight
corruption and so many injustices, not only economic but also social, that he lived at home
since he was a child. I think that at this moment he could have finished his career since he
was so dedicated to activism and the defense of human rights that he could not continue
studying and dedicated himself to his journalistic investigations.
Jaime Garzón would be fighting for a world with much more peace and less injustice...
