near your desk to put the tower, you will need to connect your monitor, keyboard, and

5. Open an application: Applications (or apps) are the tools you use on your computer to
perform specific tasks. To open an application, you can click on its icon from the
desktop or from the Start menu1.
6. Find your files: Your files are stored in a file system, and you’ll need to know how to
navigate this system in order to find your files 1.
7. Install your first program: Programs are pieces of software that perform functions on
your computer. You’ll need to know how to install a program, which involves
downloading it from the internet or installing it from a disc, and then running the
installation program1.
Remember, the more you use your computer, the more comfortable you’ll become with
