“Poverty"
Wars of nations are fought to change maps. But wars of poverty are fought to map change.”
- Muhammad Ali
Poverty is the big problem exist in the World. It is the hardest and oldest fundamental
economic issue of our country for it is "the parent of revolution and Crime" according to
Aristotle and “the worst form of violence" Gandhi. As you can see and observe that there's a
lot of people who suffer poverty and was force to commit crimes in order to live and provide
for their need.
Poverty is a threat in human security everywhere, being a multi -faceted dilemma. It affects
every human life aspects such as social, economic and political. It also brings variety of
burdens and adversities such as infant mortality, hunger and malnutrition, diseases,
illiteracy, poor economic growth, crimes child labor. This dilemmas were palpable in our
society and a lot of people suffer this problem called poverty. It spreads incessantly among
societies which is dreadful to know.
But where did the poverty came from? Why there's poverty?
There are certain factors causing poverty. First is the ignorance of lack of knowledge, which
was the primary cause of lack of education, Apathy, or the absence of concern to improve
the living condition. Numerous people who lack education suffer because they could not
have a decent and higher paying job to sustain their need and stable their living. Addition,
Dependency, over population and dishonesty of some government officials/ politicians
combined with corruption and incompetence that lead to mistrust in our government which
make the problem much harder to solve than it already was. This societal issue is palpable
most in the society which is true especially to some countries with poor economic growth.
Poverty is inevitable. It can be reduced but cannot eradicated because even though it is a
problem, without it there would be no balance in the society. However, sadly some
countries especially countries with unstable economic growth, lack of education suffer
greatly in poverty.
Philippines is one of the country who suffer greatly in poverty. If you observe, there's a lot of
people who was undergraduate, no permanent job and some has no job at all. You can see
the great number of people who was beggar in the streets or dependent to others like
extended family, people stays at home doing nothing. This are some negative effect of
poverty which resulted great number of poor people who suffer with this dilemma.
How do we reduce the poverty in the Philippines?
From 2006- 2015, data shows that the robust economic growth help the poverty rate of
poverty in Philippines to fall 5 percentage points. Poverty declines from 26.6 % in 2006 to
21.6 % in 2015, due to factors like expansion of Jobs outside agriculture and government
transfers in particular qualified poor Filipinos through the Pantawid Pamilyang Filipino
Program ( 4p's) and remittances.
Poverty, has a huge impact in the state of the society we live in. And it is a very alarming
concern notably if we do not take action and prevent its spreading. We can't prevent its
spreading however we can reduce the suffering. Poverty is not a person’s problem but the
whole nation. Government should do their part to sustain the need of their inhabitants but
people under should to their part also and not only depend on the government. Also, it
should be deal with on an urgent basis by the implementation of effective measures. In
addition, eradication of poverty has become necessary for the sustainable and inclusive
growth of people, society, country, and economy.
Lastly, countries who suffer poverty should seek help like United Nation, which aiming to
fight against the poverty in each countries with unstable economic growth like Philippines
not only in the Philippines but every part in the world who suffer with the same societal
issue. However, minimizing poverty is not the only concern of the united Nation it is the
concern of everyone and all are responsible. So with that, maybe someday the war we
fought with poverty will give people of what they want to achieve… a better change.
