Question 6
Not yet graded / 5 pts
In one paragraph (75–150 words), describe a doctrinal truth of significance that God restores (or
reveals) to Joseph Smith in the 1820 revelation known as the First Vision.
Your Answer:
This event marked a profound departure from prevailing Christian understandings of the time,
where the concept of the Trinity was dominant. The First Vision clarified that the Father and the
Son are distinct beings with individual personalities and attributes. This restoration of the
knowledge of the true nature of God laid the foundation for a more accurate understanding of
deity within the context of the Restoration. It emphasized the personal relationship individuals
can have with both the Father and the Son and set the stage for further revelations that unfolded
during the ongoing process of the Restoration.

Question 7
Not yet graded / 5 pts
In one paragraph (75–150 words), describe a second doctrinal truth of significance that God
restores (or reveals) to Joseph Smith in the 1820 revelation known as the First Vision.
Your Answer:
Through Joseph Smith's encounter with the divine, it was revealed that none of the existing
religious institutions at the time had retained the fullness of the gospel, necessitating a restoration
of divine authority, priesthood keys, and essential truths. This emphasized the concept that God's
authority and the true understanding of His teachings had been lost over time, requiring a
renewal through a prophet like Joseph Smith. The acknowledgment of a Great Apostasy and the
subsequent need for restoration became a cornerstone in understanding the unfolding narrative of
the Restoration, highlighting God's continuous involvement in reestablishing His truth on earth.

Question 8
Not yet graded / 5 pts
In one paragraph (75–150 words), describe a third doctrinal truth of significance that God
restores (or reveals) to Joseph Smith in the 1820 revelation known as the First Vision.
Your Answer:
Through Joseph Smith's experience, God demonstrated that He continues to communicate
directly with His children. The notion of a living and approachable God who responds to earnest
seekers laid the groundwork for the ongoing principle of personal revelation within the restored
Church. This truth emphasized the intimate relationship between God and individuals,
empowering them to seek divine guidance, receive answers to their prayers, and navigate their
lives with the assistance of direct communication from the Almighty.

Question 9

As we began our study of this week's material, you were asked to ponder and come up with two
questions, thoughts or ideas that were of interest to you or could further guide your study this
week. You were also asked to spend 1 hour studying something additional of your choosing.
Share here (in 75-150 words) at least one of those questions, thoughts or ideas that you selected
and provide any further insights or questions you gained from focusing on it throughout the
week’s study, especially as you sought to share it with others in your Discussion Board
participation and/or Teach a Friend assignment.

Rubric:

 1 point will be awarded for sharing the question, thought or insight.

 3 points will be awarded for sharing the further insights gained on that topic as a
result of your focus throughout the week.
 1 point will be awarded for sharing the Title and/or link of the talk, speech, podcast,
book, etc. that you studied.

(NOTE: If you are not satisfied with the results of your focus and would like to have additional
help in answering your question, please use ALL CAPS as you write and your teacher will
reply).
Your Answer:
One question I selected for further study was related to the ongoing nature of the Restoration and
how the additional readings, such as Moses 7:54–64 and Joseph Smith—History 1:27–75,
contribute to understanding the continuous restoration process. As I delved into these scriptures
and talks, I gained a deeper appreciation for the progressive nature of God's revelations and how
each phase of Joseph Smith's life played a crucial role in unfolding doctrinal truths. The concept
of "line-upon-line" became more pronounced, highlighting that the Restoration is not a one-time
event but an ongoing, evolving process. The talk that significantly contributed to these insights
was Jeffrey R. Holland's "Our Most Distinguishing Feature" (Ensign, May 2005). This talk
provided a compelling perspective on the unique characteristics of the Church and how they are
connected to the ongoing restoration process.

Question 10

As you ponder your discipleship project goals you set in week 3, please answer TWO of the
following questions (in 75-150 words) as you think about your progress during the last week:

1. During the last week, what are you doing well at in keeping to your plan for
improvement in the area you have chosen?
2. In the last week, what struggles or difficulties have you experienced in striving to
achieve your goal?
3. In what ways have you noticed growth and progression in your discipleship?
4. How have you felt divine help and assistance from your Heavenly Father, Savior, and
the Holy Ghost during this last week?
5. In what ways did our study topic for this week apply to your discipleship project and
help your personal growth?
6. What tools and tips are helping you to be successful? Include scriptures, teachings of
living prophets, and specific efforts you have made to bring about the change or
improvement you desire.
7. This week, how did your discipleship project goals bless your relationships with
others?
8. What specific things do you want to improve or change for the duration of this
project?

Your Answer:
Divine help has been evident as I've sought guidance through prayer. There were moments when
I felt an added measure of understanding and empathy, attributes closely tied to patience.
Recognizing this assistance has reinforced the importance of relying on divine support in my
discipleship journey.
The study topic for this week, centered around the ongoing nature of the Restoration, has been a
reminder that personal growth is also a continuous process. Understanding that patience is not
just a goal but a lifelong practice aligns with the principles of line-upon-line development,
encouraging me to be patient with my own growth and trusting in the unfolding process.
