7. Before marking exams, a teacher goes through his pens to make sure he has enough to finish
marking. He finds that he has five pens in total so he decides to buy ten red pens (he doesn’t want

of 36 questions prepared.
10. A class has completed a revision quiz. When looking through the papers the teacher notices the
following; the mean score is 60%, three students answered in pencil, the range of scores is 19
marks, 15 students put their names on the paper, most students cannot spell his name, the area of a
sheet of paper is 62 370 mm2, the worst score was twelve less than the mean and the best result

12. Four students are comparing their results on the latest maths quiz. The median score is 60%, the
mean score is 65%, there is no mode and the range is 40%. When a fifth student is added to the
group the mean increases to 70%. Determine the new mode and range of the group.
13. A cylinder has a radius, r, and a height, H. Write an equation describing the height in terms of the
cylinder’s volume, V, and r.
14. During an exam in College Hall a large number of desks are set up in rows and columns. When
the number of rows is added to the number of columns the sum is an even number. The product
of the numbers of rows and columns is an odd number. If the mean of the numbers of rows and
columns is 14, determine the larges possible number of desks in the room.
15. Timmy has a number of turtles and tortoises. If five of the turtles escape and he doubles the
