    5- Excellent- 95-100

    3- Satisfactory- 82-87

    1. Mother already in Delivery Room


     Prepare for the delivery.
     Checked temperature in DR area it must
    be 25-28 degrees Celsius.
    2. Prepare the equipment.
     2 Sets of sterile Gloves
     2 Clean Dry linen
     Bonnet
     Oxytocin injection
     Plastic clamp
     Instrument clamp
     Scissors
     Kidney basins
    3. Wash hands thoroughly.

    4. Put on 2 pairs of sterile gloves aseptically.

    WITHIN THE FIRST 30 SECONDS

    Call out the time of birth.

    1. Dry and provide warmth. (1st 30 seconds)


     Use a clean, dry cloth to thoroughly dry the
    baby by wiping the eyes, face, head, front and
    back, arms and legs for at least 30 seconds.
     Do not wipe off the vernix.
     Remove the wet cloth.
     Do a quick check of the newborn’s breathing
    while drying.
    2. Do skin- to- skin contact (within ONE minute of
    delivery)
     Place the newborn prone on the mother’s
    abdomen or chest skin-to-skin.
     Cover newborn’s back with a dry, warm
    blanket and head with a bonnet.
     Place identification band on ankle.
    3. Delayed or properly timed cord clamping
    (between 1- 3 minutes)
     Remove the first set of gloves before handling
    the cord.
     Wait for the cord to stop pulsating or 2- 3
    minutes after the baby’s birth before
    clamping and cutting the cord.
     Tightly tie around the cord 2cm from the
    baby’s abdomen and another tie 5cm from
    the baby’s abdomen.
     Cut between ties with sterile instrument.
     Observe for oozing blood.
     After cord clamping, ensure oxytocin 10 IU IM
    is given to the mother.
    4. Non- separation of newborn from mother for
    early breastfeeding (within 90 minutes)
     Ensure non- separation of mother and
    newborn while on skin-to-skin contact
     Initiate breastfeeding as soon as the newborn
    shows signs of readiness to breastfeed:
    opening of mouth, licking, rooting, tonguing.
    5. Perform after care of articles used

    6. Observe appropriate infection control procedure


    and Perform hand hygiene
    7. Document the procedure
