jumping disciplines. This is a fundamental
part of track and field athletics that
showcase athletes' abilities to leap great
heights or distances.

High Jump
Athletes combine speed, strength,
and agility in a horizontal jump for
distance. Jumpers make their
approach down the runway at nearly
top speed, plant a foot on the take-
off board and leap into the air.

Long Jump
Known as one of track and field’s two
horizontal jumps, competitors sprint
along a runway and jump as far as
possible into a sandpit from a
wooden take-off board. The distance
travelled, from the edge of the board
to the closest indentation in the sand
to it, is then measured.
