X1 Data Dictionary by Charan Kumar

The document discusses one-step and two-step maintenance in SAP ABAP. One-step maintenance displays all entries on a single overview screen, allowing multiple entries to be maintained at once. Two-step maintenance uses separate screens for data entry and display, with only one entry created or edited at a time. The document recommends one-step maintenance for real-time use since it allows faster bulk editing of multiple records simultaneously.

Note:

➢ In case of one step maintenance the system generates single over view screen to
maintain and display the data.
Example: In case of one step
EMP_NO EMP_NAME --------------

1 A B

2 C D

| | |
| | |

Over-view screen – 1 (display / change mode)

➢ In case of two step maintenance the system generates two screens to create a
single entry at a time and display to create a data in another screen. Two step
maintenance is the default option.
Example: In case of two steps

EMP_NO : _______________

EMP_NAME : _______________
|
|
|

SINGLE SCREEN

Display mode only

EMP_NO EMP_NAME --------------

1 A B

| | |
| | |

Overview screen – 1

➢ In the real time the option one step maintenance is preferable. Since, the multiple
entries can be maintained at a time.
