OGL 482 Pro-Seminar II

Unit 3 Assignment:
Resume Reflection Worksheet
Section 1: Your Feedback

1) What feedback was most useful to you in this process?

Looking back at the feedback I received from the Career Services team here at ASU, the most
useful advice I received was related to the length of the resume. The rule of thumb is that
resumes should reflect 10 years of experience per page. If your resume is too long, it may be
cumbersome to read, so begin by removing information that is not relevant to the job
description.

2) Was there any feedback that you found surprising?

I was surprised to see that the summary component of a resume is not always necessary.
According to the feedback I received it has to be very specific and not a generalized summary
like I have always been taught. Oftentimes the reason the summary is left off is that the same
info can be included in a cover letter which affords you more room to elaborate , which
makes more sense now.

3) Was there any feedback that you found not useful?

All of the feedback I received was useful, however, it was more or less annoying as far as
formatting went. The feedback I received was very meticulous and I get that you want to capture
the future employer’s attention and not slap them with a book, but I also feel that in today's
world, employers are looking for your resume to stand out. I do not agree that templates should
not be used because it can be “hard” to change, I feel that utilizing a template helps us not to
reinvent the wheel and be more expressive.

4) Review the career services website (https://career.asu.edu/). Career services are

offered to all ASU students & alumni, so your journey doesn’t end here! Select one
other service they offer that you might want to take advantage of in the near future
and describe how you might use it.

In order to reach my BHAG I should take advantage of the Interviewing Preparation resources
that ASU’s Career Services offers. I need to be able to practice interviewing so that I know what
I need to work on before applying for my dream position.

I have worked for this organization in the past, and while I have had my ups and
downs varying districts I still would love the opportunity to lead others in this
industry. Starbucks was actually my first job ever and it would be nice to see me
come back to it after all these years. I love the fact that we involve both the
customer experience as well as the partner experience and give back to our local
communities.
