A. Types of Assessment
Assessment is the process of identifying, gathering and interpreting information about students
learning.
2. Summative assessment- It takes place after the learning has been completed and provides
information and feedback that sums up the teaching and learning process.
3. Diagnostic assessment- It can help you identify your students current knowledge of a
subject, their skills sets and capabilities, and to clarify misconceptions before teaching takes
place. Knowing students strengths and weaknesses can help you better plan what to teach
and how to teach it.
4. Authentic assessment- It describes the multiple form of assessment that reflecr students
learning, achievement, motivation and attitude on instructionally relevant classroom activity.
Assessment is always considered a key component in the process of teaching and learning.
A major role is being played by ICT in making the process of assessment easy for teachers. As
the use of ICT is increasing, the assessment is made now in a new and innovative manner.
While employing ICT in assessment, the recording of responses and providing necessary
feedback is likely to grow as virtual learning environments is growing day by day. Not only this
the students are being empowered to make use of online or web-based assessments which in
return help the students to do self-assessment of their learning. This paper is in support of
applying ICT in conducting assessment for students. The paper analyses the concept of
assessment with its types and explores various technological tools which will empower the
teachers to make assessment much more effective in a class room situation.
1. Traditional Assessment- It si objective test such as multiple choice, matching type true or
false and other paper and pencil test.
2. The 21’st century assessment- Differentiating the roles and responsibilities of the
teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders. We are facing a global economy where
information travels at the speed of light and knowledge of how to harness and soft through
that information has become vital to our personal and national well-being.
3. Educational Technology- Used to increase the efficiency of education in teaching, learning
and assessment. The emerging trends in education technology nowadays include mobile
learning and digital content platforms, AI-powered learning environments, augmented reality
(AR) and virtual reality (VR), gamification of learning, automated assessments, adaptive
learning, and mobile learning.
ePortfolios- It can help learners develop new or deeper learning, which results in higher grades,
and a better sense of themselves as students and as individuals. ePortfolios can also be shared
with friends and family members and showcase learners’ achievements when they are applying for
a job
