TOPIC: EXACT AND ORDINARY TIME
Ordinary interest is calculated on the basis of a 360-day year or a 30-day
month; exact interest is calculated on a 365-day year. The interest formulas
for both ordinary and exact interest are actually the same, with time slightly
differing when given as number of days.
NOTE: SAME FORMULA USED FOR EXACT AND ORDINARY
EXAMPLE QUESTION: What is the exact simple interest using actual time, if Lyka borrowed P15, 000.00 from
the bank on March 19, 2020 which is to be repaid on Aug 6, 2020 at 3% simple interest?
SOLUTION:
EXAMPLE QUESTION: What is the exact simple interest using approximate time, if Lyka borrowed P15, 000.00
from the bank on March 19, 2020 which is to be repaid on Aug 6, 2020 at 3% simple interest?
TOPIC: ANNUITY
TOPIC: PROPOSITION
EXAMPLE: Which of the following is the correct definition of a compound proposition?
A. Composed of two or more simple propositions.
B. Composed of one or more simple propositions.
EXAMPLE: What kind of proposition says, If the sky is dark, then it will rain?
COMPOUND PROPOSITION
EXAMPLE: It is a declarative sentence subject for affirmation or denial.
SIMPLE PROPOSITION
EXAMPLE QUESTION: Which of the following is a statement of a simple proposition?

conditions.
B. If the sky is dark, then it will rain
C. Cheese is made from cow milk.
D. Sandy is either mad or disappointed by your action.
EXAMPLE: Determine the truth value: If 5+5 = 10 and 6+6=12, then 5+6=22
EXAMPLE: The proposition p is a true statement, q is a false statement, and r is a true statement.
Which of the following has a false truth value?
A. (~𝑞) ↔ (𝑝 ∨ 𝑟)
B. (𝑝 ∧ (~𝑟)) → q
C. 𝑝 ∧ (𝑞 ∨ (∼ 𝑟)
D. 𝑝∨𝑞∨r
EXAMPLE: You hear the English sentence: "Both Mary and John are at the party." Translate it into logical
symbols.
EXAMPLE: Consider the propositions p: ‘Today is Wedsnesday’ and q: ‘Today is my birthday’. The proposition
(∼ 𝑝) ∨ 𝑞 can be translated as
EXAMPLE: Consider the propositions: p: A rectangle is a quadrilateral. q: A rectangle is a four sided shape. r: A
rectangle has one acute angle. What is the correct symbol in the statement ‘If a rectangle has one acute angle or
it is a quadrilateral, then it is a four sided shape.’
EXAMPLE: The statement "I will sing, or I will dance" is an example of which logic connective?
EXAMPLE: You are given a logical statement: "If it's a weekend, then I'll go to the beach." What is the logical
operator in this statement?
EXAMPLE: The statement ‘If 𝜋 > 3, then Makati is a province in the Philippines’ has a false truth value. Why?
EXAMPLE: Determine the truth value: if 2n is even then 2n+1 is odd.
EXAMPLE: Consider the propositions: p: A rectangle is a quadrilateral. q: A rectangle is a four sided shape. r: A
rectangle has one acute angle. Express the following in English sentences 𝑝 ↔ (r ∧ q).
EXAMPLE: You're a teacher and want to know if your students did their homework. You ask, "Did you complete
your homework and bring it to class?" What logical operator is used to combine the two propositions?
EXAMPLE: Which of the following is representation of a biconditional?
A. Angeline is a Grade 11 student and Justin misses his old friend.
B. Ken loves his pet cat if and only if Justin misses his old friend.
C. Justin misses his old friend or Angeline is a Grade 11 student.
D. If Ken loves his pet cat, then Angeline is a Grade 11 student.
EXAMPLE: For conditional propositions, when will it become FALSE?
1. hypothesis = T, conclusion = T
2. hypothesis = F, conclusion = F
3. hypothesis = F, conclusion = T
4. hypothesis = T, conclusion = F
EXAMPLE: Conjunction of two conditional statements where the antecedent and consequent of the first
statement have been switched in the second statement.
EXAMPLE: Given these three propositions: p : She was enrolled in this class. q: She passed the test. r: She left
the room early. Express this proposition in symbol " she was enrolled in the class and passed the test, but did
not left the room early.’
EXAMPLE: Given the Conditional proposition p and q: "If you submit all your Module's performance
task then, you will be rewarded with a satisfying grade." Express in symbol
