Power System II Matlab Lab Practicals

This document provides instructions for two MATLAB lab simulations: 1) Simulating a power transmission system including generator, transmission line, and load models to analyze the effects of conductor size and sag. 2) Simulating power factor correction in a power system by adding capacitor banks and analyzing the impact on power factor and system performance. Scenarios with and without correction will be compared. Optimization tools may be used to determine optimal correction settings.

Sag Modelling:

 Model the sag in transmission lines considering tension, temperature, and mechanical
properties of the conductors.
 Observe the impact of sag on clearances and ground proximity.

Simulation Scenarios:

Scenario Definition:

 Define specific scenarios to simulate, - load variations.

 Specify parameters and conditions for each scenario.

Simulation Setup:

 Input relevant data and parameters, including generator and load data, transmission line
specifications, conductor properties, and simulation time settings.

Running Simulations:

 Run simulations for each defined scenario.

 Monitor and record system variables like voltage, current, power flows, and conductor
sag.

Analysis:

Results Interpretation:

 Analyse simulation results to assess system performance.

 Evaluate voltage stability, power flow, conductor temperature, and sag clearance.

Optimization:
 If applicable, use optimization algorithms to find the optimal conductor size meeting
specified constraints.
