Chap 1
In this project, the researchers main objective is
1. To design the biogas-powered electricity generator based on the needs of the
client.
2. To develop and implement a biogas-powered electricity generator to the
intended client.
3. To evaluate the biogas-powered electricity generator.
4. To conduct technology transfer to the intended client.
Chapter 2

Biogas to electricity generation

Biomethane, a refined biogas, can replace up to 10% of US natural gas consumption, offering
versatile and cost-effective power generation. Mike Carabott mentions that it captures methane
emissions, reducing environmental impact, and can be used for clean vehicle fuel, heating, and
on-site electricity generation. Pradmin, on other hand states that biogas systems on American
farms and industries convert waste into revenue, reduce greenhouse gases, and create jobs. To
maximize its potential, consistent policy support and funding are vital, addressing climate change
and diversifying the fuel supply.

Biogas Calculations

Accurate quantification of manure and nutrient levels on pig farms is essential for effective waste
management and sustainable agriculture. Factors like diet, pig age, and water usage influence
manure composition. Precise assessment enables tailored waste management and conversion into
valuable crop fertilizer, promoting eco-friendly practices. Determining biogas plant size relies on
daily waste production, feedstock quality, and organic loading rate. Calculating inverter size
facilitates AC appliance power from DC sources, while circuit breaker sizing ensures electrical
circuit safety. Accurate calculations underpin efficient, safe energy systems and sustainable
agricultural practices.

Chapter 3

Figure 3.2 illustrates the biogas-powered electricity generator, starting with pig slurry input.
Anaerobic digestion in the digester produces biogas, primarily methane and CO2, sent to a gas
engine converting it to mechanical energy. A DC motor dynamo then transforms this into
electrical energy. An inverter makes it compatible with AC systems, while a circuit breaker
ensures safety and reliability, resulting in electricity production from pig slurry for various
applications.

Develop and implement the biogas-powered electricity generator for the intended clients\
This section will cover the fabrication, troubleshooting, and installation of the project.

The fabrication involves two key stages: in the first, materials and equipment are prepared,
emphasizing cost-effectiveness and functionality, including equipment testing and component
acquisition. In the second, researchers assemble and integrate these components to create a
functional prototype, spanning the entire biogas system from manure collection to electrical
wiring installation.

Troubleshooting for a biogas-powered electricity generator, as per the "Guideline for Biogas
Generation" by REA and JICA (2015), and a safety checklist based on the "Risk Analysis
Checklist for Biogas Projects" from the EPA (2020) are provided in Table 3.4 and Table 3.5,
respectively. These resources help identify and address issues while assessing potential risks
associated with the generator.

The biogas-powered electricity generator installation involves key steps: constructing a pig
manure collection system with a digester tank, installing durable pipes for fluid flow, and
integrating an engine and generator running on biogas. Wiring and component connections meet
Philippine Electrical Code standards for safety. Routine monitoring ensures efficient operation.
