Section B: Writing

Spend 30 minutes on this section.

18 His heart was thumping. Jamie followed the trail of wet footprints across the floor. When he
reached the door he looked back. The librarian was looking after him with a particularly
unpleasant smile.

‘Good luck,’ she said. ‘You’ll need it.’

Continue the story.

You should consider:

• how you will create suspense

• who Jamie will meet
• what will happen to Jamie next.

Space for your plan:

- opened the door - long hallway - dim light - hard concrete floor
- walked along the hallway - felt like an eternity - only heard the thuds of his shoes hitting the
concrete floor
- occasionally looked behind - the green door getting further and further away - could only continue
to advance forwards
- he finally saw a bright light - squinted his eyes - ran towards it

- opened his eyes - in awe at the scenery

- forest-like room - grass, flowers, trees
- a talking raven - unusual green eyes
- 'so you are the one this room has chosen '
- led him to a massive oak tree in the centre of the room
- stood a marble stand, with specks of gold - an open book - a leather cover, yellowed pages
- Jamie touched it and got sucked inside the book

Write your continuation of the story on the next page. [25 marks]
