Cabinet Interfaces and External Cables of IPA-RNC

1. Cabinet interfaces and cabling overview

The document contains information on the network interfaces and cables for IPA2800
based network elements, namely Radio Network Controller (RNC). The document applies
to RNC2600.

The external cables of RNC connect the network element to the mobile network
environment. The following interfaces are used in RNC:

Power supply interfaces

LAN/Ethernet 1000 BASE-T/-LX/-SX Network interfaces
SDH/STM-1 OC-3 interfaces
External synchronisation and alarm inputs and outputs
LAN/Ethernet 10/100/1000 MBit/s Operating interfaces
Service terminal interfaces from plug-in units (for temporary service operations; not
covered by this document)

The external cables connect to the front panels of the plug-in units.

For more information, see the operating documentation available on NOLS.

1.1 Power supply interfaces

The RNC operate on a -48V DC supply system. The voltage limits are -40V DC to -57V DC.
Each equipment cabinet has two mutually redundant power entry connectors. Power feed
cables can be routed through from the top or bottom of the cabinet.

When using the CPD120-A cabinet power distributor, the maximum current is 120A per

cabinet, the maximum thickness of the power supply cable is 70 mm2, and the maximum
voltage drop is 1.5V.

1.2 Interfaces from the front panel of the plug-in units

Several connectors are available in the front panels of the plug-in units.
STM-1/OC-3 interfaces from NP8S1-B (NPS1P/NPS1)
LAN 1000BASE-LX, LAN 1000Base-SX and 1000Base-T interfaces from the ESA40-A,and
NP2GE-B (NPGEP/NPGE)
LAN 100 BASE-T interface(s) from the ESA40-A

Figure 2: Interfaces from the front panel of the plug-in units in RNC

1.3 Interfaces from the connector panels

The cables can be connected directly from connector panels to the environment.
CPSY-A and CPSY-B
CPSY-A is a connector panel for synchronization of clock 0 (TSS3/TSS3-A 0) and CPSY-B is
a connector panel for synchronization of clock 1 (TSS3/TSS3-A 1). CPSY-A and CPSY-B
consist of two BNC connectors and three RJ-45 connectors for external synchronization
inputs and outputs, and they are equipped in the same network element.
CPAL-A
A connector panel for alarms consists of one D25 connector for EXAU-A control, one D37
connector for general current or voltage outputs, two D37 connectors for voltage-
controlled inputs, and one D25 connector for current-controlled alarm inputs.

1) Due to the 12 x 2 cable, alarm signal AL0 – AL11 are connected. Version A02 cable is needed
when alarm signals AL6 – AL11 need to be chained. Only EXAU-A has the chaining feature.

The alarm output connector of EXAU-A is for chaining two or more EXAU-A units so that
alarms coming from the network element can be displayed on two or more EXAU-A units.

The tables below describe the connector pinouts for the following cases:

Displaying the same alarms on two EXAU-A units: chaining EXAU-A 1 to EXAU-A 2 with a
straight-through cable
Displaying alarms AL06 to AL11 on EXAU-A 2: chaining EXAU-A 1 to EXAU-A 2 with a
crossover cable

For more information on EXAU-A and the chaining principles, seeEXAU-A.
