INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
1. This subject comprises Paper 1 (40%) and Paper 2 (60%).
2. Paper 1 consists of three sections:
Section A : Composition (20%)
Section B : Summary Writing (10%)
Section C : Cloze Test (10%)
3. Complete Paper 1 within the 1 hour 45 minutes allocated. After a 20 - minute interval,
proceed to complete Paper 2 within the 1 hour 20 minutes allocated.
4. Your composition will be assessed on its content, grammar, organisation, style
vocabulary, grammar, spelling and format.
5. Please use blue or black ink to write your answers.
6. All answers in Section C should be written on the Junior English Language answer
sheet provided. Make sure that the numbers of your answers correspond to the number
of the questions.
7. Before answering the questions, fill in your index number on the marking-sheet
(computer card) and blacken the corresponding letters/numbers with a 5B pencil. After
answering all the questions, blacken the numbers of the questions you have chosen in
the question number column and also indicate the total number of questions answered.
8. Arrange the answer scripts in sectional order with the marking – sheet (computer card)
on top and tie them together.
9. Paper 1 consists of three printed pages.

SECTION A COMPOSITION (20 %)
Write a composition of not less than 120 words on one of the following topics.
1. Students should be allowed to use their mobile phones in school. Do you agree?
2. Your class teacher is retiring at the end of this year and you are asked to write a farewell
speech.

Each of the numbered blanks below stands for one word that has been omitted. Read the
passage and then fill in each blank with one appropriate word. The first blank has been filled
in for you.

therapies to regain a balance between the body, mind, spirit and the environment. Ayurveda

remedies, massage therapy, yoga and meditation. The use of traditional medicine has become
safer with research and development on safety, efficacy and quality. It has become more
