1. Critically examine the importance of Service Sector for the Indian economy.
What, in your view, is the potential / opportunities in this sector?
The service sector plays a crucial role in the Indian economy and has become a significant
contributor to its growth and development. The importance of the service sector can be
examined from various perspectives:
Contribution to GDP: The service sector is a major contributor to India's Gross
Domestic Product (GDP). Over the years, there has been a shift from an agrarian
economy to a service-oriented one, with the service sector accounting for a substantial
portion of the country's GDP.
Employment Generation: The service sector is a key provider of employment
opportunities in India. It encompasses a wide range of industries such as IT and IT-
enabled services, banking, insurance, hospitality, healthcare, and more. The sector has
been instrumental in absorbing the growing workforce, especially in urban areas.
Foreign Exchange Earnings: Export of services, particularly in the Information
Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) domains, has contributed
significantly to India's foreign exchange earnings. The country has emerged as a
