PHILIPPINES AND THE WORLD

I- OBJECTIVE
A. CONTENT STANDARD
The learner will be able to understand and appreciate literary texts in various genres across
national literature and cultures.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner will be able to demonstrate understanding and appreciation of 21s century literature
of the world through:
1. a written close analysis and critical interpretation of a literary text in terms of form and
theme with a description of its context derived from research;
2. critical paper that analyzes literary texts in relation to the context of the reader and the writer
or a critical paper that interprets literary texts using any of the critical approaches; and
3. an adaptation of a text into other creative forms using multimedia.

C. LEARNING COMPETENCY
Writing a close analysis and critical interpretation of literary texts, applying a reading
approach,and doing an adaptation of these, require from the learner the ability to identify:
representative texts and authors from Asia, North America, Europe, Latin America, and Africa

A. TOPIC: Reading approaches (skimming, scanning, intensive and extensive)
B. REFERENCES: learner’s module
C. MATERIALS: manila paper, chalk, card board.

2. ANALYSIS
There are particular situations where we can
use the different reading approaches. The
previous activity, shows us different
scenarios. -scanning
-On scenario number 1, what is your answer?
-Very good! - because you are looking for a more specific
-Why is it scanning? word.
-skimming
-how about for number 2?

3. ABSTRACTION
Aside from reading approaches, there are also
reading tips and techniques that surely will
help you to read effectively.
Here are some of the reading tips:
-slow down when you are encountering
unfamiliar words and new information.
-read faster when you are encountering
redundant words and information that you
already know.

4. APPLICATION
On a 1/2 sheet yellow paper, answer the
question for at least 4 sentences.

E. GENERALIZATION

Reading Approach is an approach


wherein students are demanded to read
more to improve their knowledge and get
new ideas.
2. Students will know the different
cultures by reading across cultural
understanding in reading.
3. In reading approach, students are
expected to improve their English Skills.
4. In skimming, the main idea of a text is
quickly identified
5. Skimming is done at a speed three to
four times faster than normal reading.
6. Skimming works well to find dates,
names, and places. Scanning is quickly
reading a text to get the summary of it.
7. Scanning involves moving the eyes
quickly down the page seeking specific
words and phrases.
8. Extensive Reading is an approach
where the reader’s view and review of
unknown words in specific context will
allow the reader to infer the word’s
meaning, to learn unfamiliar words.
9. Extensive Reading is sometimes called
Free Voluntary Reading.
Aside from reading approaches, there are
also reading tips and techniques that surely
will help you to read effectively.
Here are some of the reading tips:
