B. MOTIVATION
Multiple choice:
Group your self into four.
Choose the letter of your best answer.
Translate each statement into an equation. Use k for the constant of term:
D. ANALYSIS
The teacher helps the students analyze on how to translate the statements into equation
using k for constant.
Translate it!
1. The quantity P varies directly as b, and inversely as w.
P=kb/W
2. b varies directly as c, and inversely as the square of d.
b= kc/d
3. y varies directly as the square root of x, and inversely as z.
y= k√ x / z
4. The quantity D varies jointly as m and the square of h and inversely as p.
D=kmh / p
5. r varies directly as the square of s, and inversely as t.
r= ks /t
Combined Variation
-involves a combination of direct variation, inverse variation , and joint
variation.
The statement “y varies directly as x and inversely as z” means y=kx/z, where k is the
constant of variation and k≠0.
Example :
The acceleration of an object varies directly as the force exerted and inversely
as its mass.
Suppose z=100 when w=4, x=5, and y=15. if z varies jointly as w and x and
inversely as y, find the equation of variation. Moreover, solve for z when w=1,
x= 5, and y=3.
Equation: z=kwx/y
(100)(15)
k= (4)(5)
k=1500
20
k=75
Equation of variation:
z=75wx
Y
z= 75(1)(5)
3
z= 375
3
z= 125
E. APPLICATION
Translate each statement into an equation. Use k for the constant of term:
1. y varies directly as h, and inversely as x.
2. r varies directly as s, and inversely as the square of v.
3. The quantity M varies jointly as n and the square of o and inversely as p.
Find the constant of variation and the equation of variation given that y varies directly as
x and inversely as z.
1. y= 12 when x=8 and z=4.
F. ABSTRACTION
What is combined variation?
Combined variation are compose of ______, ______, _______.
Translate the statement into an equation.
1. d varies directly as e, and inversely as b.
2. The quantity of A varies jointly as m and c and inversely as h.
3. The time it takes to paint a house varies directly as the size of the house and
inversely as the number of workers.
Translate each statement into an equation. Use k for the constant of term:
1. m varies directly as x, and inversely as z.
2. The quantity of O varies jointly as p and q and inversely as r.
3. The acceleration of an object varies directly as the force exerted and inversely as its
mass.
4. g varies directly as h, and inversely as square of i.
