2. Purpose of the Course:


To introduce students to the analogue modulation systems Amplitude, Frequency and phase
modulation and concepts of bandpass communication.

3. Expected Learning Outcomes of the Course:


At the end of this course, the student should be:
i. able to describe the basic components of a communication system and the different
types of communication systems
ii. proficient in the theory of amplitude and frequency modulation
iii. able to describe the components of AM and FM transmission and reception
iv. able to describe the effect of noise in AM and FM communication systems
v. able to compare AM and FM communication systems
vi. able to design a basic analogue communication system.

7. Course Assessment
Regular Examination at end of Semester: 70 %, Continuous Assessment: 30 % where 10 % shall
be continuous assessment tests, 5 % shall be assignments, and 15 % shall be labs. The students
must complete and pass all the labs before they can be allowed to proceed to the next class.
