American era in the Philippines
Which lasted from 1898 to 1946, there were significant changes in the Philippines culture,
particularly in the realm of popular culture. The American influence brought about the introduction
of new ideas, technologies, and forms of entertainment, which had a profound impact of the Filipino
people.

Here are some aspects of Philippine popular culture during this period:

1. Language and Education – The American colonial period government made English the
medium of instruction in schools, which led to the whispered use and adoption in English
language and Filipinos.
2. Media and Entertainment-The American brought in new forms of entertainment such as
movies, radio, and later television. American films become popular, and local film industries
were established, producing Filipino movies that reflected a blend of American and Filipino
cultures.

3. Music and Dance -American genres like jazz, swing, and later, rock and roll, become popular
in the Philippines. Local musicians incorporated these styles into their music, creating a fusion
of American and Filipino sounds. Dance halls and clubs have become popular venues for
socializing and enjoying music and dance.
4. Sports-American sports such as basketball. Baseball, and boxing gained popularity in the
Philippines during the American era.

5. Fashion and Lifestyle-American fashion trends influenced the way Filipinos dressed, With
Western-style clothing becoming more prevalent. American food and beverages, cookies, ice
cream such as hamburgers, hotdogs, and soft drinks, also became part of the Filipino diet.
 6. Literature and Arts- American literature and art forms, such as novels, shorts stories, and
paintings, influenced Filipino writers and artists. Many Filipino writers began to write in
English. Incorporating American literary styles and themes into their works. American styles
painting techniques also became popular among Filipino artists.

Integration
Science – “food” eating too much unhealthy food like ice cream, cookies,
hamburger is not good in our health why? It can cause a diabetes.
Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease characterize by elevated levels of sugar
glucose (of blood sugar), which lends overtime to serious damage to the heart, blood
vessels even kidneys and nerves.

F. Application
The teacher will group the students into three groups:

Group1 – Define at least three aspects of popular culture during American period that well known.
Group2 -Make a slogan that relate in our topic about popular culture during American period.
Group3 – Demonstrate one popular culture that reflects what Filipino is.
