[email protected]Prerequisites: Math210 (Calculus II)
Co-requisites: Math225 (Linear Algebra) and Math270 (Ordinary Differential Equations)
Course description and objectives
The course aims to provide students with the specialist knowledge in Multi-variable Calculus
and Vector Analysis. With this overall aim, the course strives to enable students to:
Build a foundation of basic knowledge of multi-variable functions;
Develop the academic abilities required to solve problems related to partial derivatives
and multiple integrals;
Introduce line integrals.
Learning outcomes
A student who successfully fulfills the course requirements will have demonstrated ability to:
1. Identify the exact type of cylinders and some quadric surfaces, and sketch them;
2. Learn about multi-variable functions and compute their limits;
3. Apply the concept of partial derivatives to find local extrema, directional derivative, and
tangent planes;
4. Learn about multiple integrals and line integrals;
5. Apply the concept of multiple integrals to find the area of a closed bod region and volume
of a solid bod region;
6. Use line integrals to evaluate work and circulation.

Online sessions
Each week we will have at least two live sessions in which we will be explaining new material.
The last 10 minutes of each live session will be left for QA. These sessions will be recorded and
posted on Google Classroom.
The online sessions will be through Zoom or Google meet.
Communication means
The means of communication with your instructor are: Live sessions, Emails, Google Classroom.
Responsibilities
Students are expected to read the chapters and work out all assigned problems given by the
instructor. It is recommended that these problems are handed in to the instructor on weekly basis
to avoid accumulation before each exam. Understanding and working out problems is very crucial
for passing the course. In addition, students are strongly encouraged to study on daily basis and
to meet with the instructor during live sessions for further questions and explanation of any
struggled issues.
Attendance
Students are expected to attend all the live sessions. Attendance will be recorded and it will be a
part of the Participation grade.
The participation grade (9%) will be partially on attendance and participation in live
sessions, and partially on the submission of the practice questions assignment before each
exam.
