General Instructions:
a. All questions are compulsory. There are 33 questions in all.
b. This question paper has five sections: Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D and Section E.
c. Section A contains 5 very short answer questions, 5 MCQ’s questions and 4 assertion/reason
MCQs of 1 mark each, Section B has 2 Case-Based questions of 4 marks each, Section C
contains 9 short answer questions of 2 marks each, Section D contains 5 short answer
questions of 3 marks each and Section E contains 3 long answer questions of 5 marks each.

Section A
1. If the velocity-time graph of a particle is parallel to time axis, what will be the acceleration of
particle?
2. Write the dimensional formulae of wavelength and frequency of a wave.

3. The velocity v of a particle at time t is given by v = at + 𝑡+𝑐 , where a, b ,c are constants. The
dimensions of a , b ,c are respectively .
4. A unit vector is represented by 𝑎𝑖̂ + 𝑏𝑗 + c𝑘. If the value of a and b are 0.6 and 0.8
respectively, find the value of c.
5. Can two non-zero vectors give zero resultant when they multiply with each other. If yes, give
tcondition for the same.

CASE STUDY
15. Friction between any two surfaces in contact is the force that opposes the
relative motion between them. The force of limiting friction (F) between
any twosurfaces in contact is directly proportional to the normal reaction
(R) between them i .e. F 𝖺 R or F= μR , where μ is coefficient of limiting
friction , then μ = tanθ.

Read the passage given below and give answer


1. An elastic collision is a collision in which there is no net loss in kinetic energy in
the system as a result of the collision. Both momentum and kinetic energy are
conserved quantities in elastic collisions.

17. Draw the graph of equation Fs = - kx, where Fs is the spring force and x is the
displacement of block from equilibrium position. Using the graph, show that maximum
work done by the 𝑚 spring at xm is Ws= −𝑘𝑥2 /2 , (k = spring constant).
18. An object falling through a fluid is observed to have acceleration given by a = g – bv,
where g =gravitational acceleration and b is constant. After a long time of release, it is
observed to fall with constant speed. What must be the value of constant speed?
19. What is the apparent weight of a man of mass 60 kg who is standing on a lift which is
moving upwith a uniform speed? (g = 10 m s-2)
20. Three masses m1, m2 and m3 are placed on a smooth horizontal table is shown in fig. and
are pulled by a constant force F. find the tensions in the strings. Given that the strings are
light and inextensible.

24. The displacement x of a particle moving in one dimension under the action of a constant
force isrelated to the time by the equation t = √𝑥 − 3, where x is in metre and t in
second. Find the velocity of the particle at (i) t = 3 s, (ii) t = 3 s.
25. A thin circular loop of radius R rotates about its vertical diameter with an angular
frequency ω≤ √𝑔 / 𝑅. What is the angle made by the radius vector joining the centre to the
bead with the vertical downward direction for ω = √2𝑔 / 𝑅 ? Neglect friction.

SECTION D

26. A cricket ball of mass 150 g is moving with a speed of 12 m s-1 and is hit by a bat so that
the ball is turned back with a speed of 20 m s -1.The force of the blow acts for 0.01 s on
the ball. Find the average force exerted by the bat on the ball.
27. Earth moves in circular orbit around the sun once every year with an orbital radius of
1.5 x 1011 m. what is the acceleration of Earth (or any object on the surface of the Earth)
towards the centre of the Sun? How does this acceleration compare with g = 9.8 m s –2?
28. Draw the following graphs (expected nature only) representing motion of an object
under free fall. Neglect air resistance.
(A) Variation of position with respect to time.
(B) Variation of velocity with respect to time.
(C) Variation of acceleration with respect to time.
29. A large fluid star oscillates in shape under the influence of its own gravitational field.
Using dimensional analysis, find the expression for period of oscillation (T) in terms of
radius of star (R),mean density of fluid (𝜌) and universal gravitational constant G.
30. A ball is dropped from a height of 90 m on a floor. At each collision with the floor, the
ball losesone tenth of its speed. Plot the speed-time graph of its motion between t = 0 to
12 s.

SECTION E

31. a) Derive the equation s = ut + ½ at 2 using calculus method.


b) A three-wheeler starts from rest, accelerates uniformly with 1 m s–2 on a straight road
for 10 s, and then moves with uniform velocity. Plot the distance covered by the
vehicle during the nth second (n = 1,2,3….) versus n. What do you expect this plot
to be during accelerated motion: astraight line or a parabola?
32. a) Find the angle of projection for which the horizontal range and the maximum height of
a projectile are equal.
b) Derive an equation for trajectory of a projectile thrown at an angle α to the
horizontal. Derive an expression for Time of flight and the maximum height reached
by the projectile.
33. a) State and prove the work energy theorem using calculus method.
b) A car of mass 1000 kg accelerates uniformly from rest to a velocity of 54 km h-1 in 5 s.
Calculate
(i) its acceleration, (ii) its gain in kinetic energy, (iii) average power of the engine
during thisperiod. Neglect friction.
