Prayer Notes - Slot 1: 6 am-615 am

Pst Joshua Kawadza

Slot Theme: That we may love the Lord truly and desire none other above or besides
Him.

Read the Scripture

“O God, thou art My God; early will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth
for thee In a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;”
Psalm 63:1 KJV

Prayer points:

1. The beginning of this verse is the personalising of God. The writer is showing us that
God is one we can either relate to or fail to relate to God. The confirmation of
relationship is when we recognise Him as My God not just God. Jesus did the same
thing when he asked his disciples the question – “What about you? Who do you say I
am?” in Matthew 16:15 That question wanted the one who would answer it to see Jesus
in an intimate way. This morning we must make a recommitment to God as My God.
When he is the God of others we will not give him our hearts but when He is our God
then He can have our hearts every day. Let’s pray a prayer of recommitment to this God
who wants to know each of us personally.

Prayer:
Our Father, hallowed be your name. This morning we repent for loving you from a
distance, for seeing you as the God next door and yet you are so much more. This
morning we reaffirm our love for you. We confess that you are our God. You are My
God! This morning I give you my heart again and embrace your love for me. My God
– I ask that you would bring me to this place all day today, the place where you and I
are so close, the place where you are My God.
I call you my father because you lovingly made me.
I call you my master because you lovingly direct me
I call you my king because it is your kingdom I represent.
I will have no other God’s before you for you are My God!
In the name of Jesus, I pray – Amen!

2. The second part of the verse – early will I seek thee is more than just a reference to the
time of day. It also refers to the writer’s disposition towards seeking His God. It’s
talking about seeking God first. To seek God early is to seek God first. Let’s pray for
an attitude as a church that is set on seeking God first. The 5 wise virgins were
commended for getting their oil early. The 5 foolish ones were so late they were too
late. He must be first if we want to walk in wisdom. So much else competes with God
but we must let Him come first. The biggest competitor to God is ourselves – pray that
our attitude would be like John’s who said “May he increase and I decrease’.

Prayer:
Our Father, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. This
morning we crown you as our king and declare that you are first. You are number one.
Your will not ours. Your kingdom not ours. Your glory not ours. Thank you, Father,
for teaching us the value of making you first in our lives, first in our homes and first in
the church. Make us examples of a people that puts you first. This morning we ask for
you to rearrange our daily agenda. Where we are not making you first, we repent and
we ask for the setting of the right order. So, Lord we seek you early in our individual
lives – let the fruit be a life you will say well done to. We seek you early in our families
– let the fruit be a home that becomes your habitation. And Lord we seek you early in
our church - let the fruit be a healthy vibrant body of believers. In the name of Jesus,
we pray – Amen.

3. My soul thirsteth for thee

The soul is the mind, will and emotions of a man. It is the seat of reason and the place
where decisions are made. A soul is influenced either by the flesh or the spirit of a man.
Depending on which of these two is dominant, the soul will produce the motivation for
our choices. The write highlights that the soul is thirsty. Thirst is the result of a lack of
water. Water is a picture of the word or spirit of God. When the Word of God is missing
in our lives – our souls will be thirsty.

Prayer:
Our Father, we thank you for how you have designed us as human beings and this clue
for how to find satisfaction and fulfilment in this life. There is a cure for the thirsty soul.
That cure is the water of your word. This morning we pray for new kind of rain to fall
over the city of Harare, over our church and homes. The rain of your word! Father we
ask that you send us your word today. Let your word be spoken on our streets, in our
places of governance, in our theatres, in our songs and in our conversation. We
recognise that what Harare needs is the word! So, send us your word O God in every
form. Let your word overtake our social media, radio, tv and print media so that the
souls of men may be quenched. We stand in the gap for all those who are weary and
tired of this empty world this morning and we ask for a fresh outpouring of your word.
Our souls are thirsty for you – pour out your word, your Spirit over us, In Jesus’ name!

Read Matthew 22:35-40

“Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the
Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first
and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as
thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

4. Our father we pray for a wave of love to overtake us as your church. Firstly, to love you
and then to love each other. We break the barriers of loveless living where we only care
about ourselves and respond to your words. Help us not to be like this lawyer who
merely wanted to test Jesus, keep us from demanding that you show your power when
we fail to love you and love others. Love for you and love for others will be our
hallmark today as your people. You are love and call us to love so we speak 1
Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does
not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record
of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects,
always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Thank you, Father, this is the confidence we have. In Jesus’ name – Amen!
