1. Figure below shows three vectors A , B and C

(a) Determine Ax , Ay , B x , B y , C x , C y .

 
(b) Given that R = A − B + C , calculate the magnitude and direction of R .
[Answer: (a) 38.8, 20.7, –14.8, 22.0, 0, –31.0; (b) 62.6, 31.1° below +x axis]

2. The force R is the resultant force of the following three forces
A = (200 N, 30.0°);
B = (300 N, 330°); and
C = (400 N, 250°).

By using the component method of vector addition,

(a) calculate the resultant components Rx and Ry,



(b) determine the resultant force R = ( R ,  R ) .

4.80 km. The finish line of the course coincides with the starting line. Using the data in
the drawing, find the distance and the direction of the fourth leg.

and C pull on a large stone stuck in the ground.

Find the magnitude and direction of a fourth force D on the stone that will make the
