III. Procedure:
Gawain ng Guro Gawain ng Mag-aaral

A. Preliminary Activities

 Greetings
“Good morning, Class, “Good morning teacher, good
morning classmates.”
“How is your morning going so far?”
We are doing good”
“That is good to hear!”

 Prayer
“Before we start our day, let us pray.”
(Student will lead the prayer)
“Fiona, kindly lead the prayer.” Please bow your heads and let us
pray,
Dear Jesus, Please show me how to
spend this day, sharing your love in
every way.
Help me to be kind to everyone, to
play and laugh and have lots of fun,
shining your light and giving your
grace, sharing your joy with a smile
on my face.
Angel of God my guardian dear to
whom God’s love commits me here,
ever this day, be at my side, to light
and guard, to rule and guide.
AMEN
“May I request everyone to arrange
your chairs properly, pick up the (Students will arrange their chairs
trashes around you and sit down and will pick up the trashes)
properly after”

 Attendance
“Class monitor, is there any absent for “There is no absent in our class today
today?” Ma’am.”

“Very Good!”

B. Review
“let’s have a short review of our past
lesson. What is our previous lesson all
about.?”

“Yes, Charmain? “Key Signatures”

“Very good! Can you define what is

key signature?”

“Yes Vince?” “A key signature is placed at the

beginning of a piece and is written
“Good job.” with the clef on the beginning of each
line of music.”

The key signature reminds the

performer which sharps, or flats are in
the scale or key of the piece. If there
are no sharp and flat symbols then the
staff is natural.

C. Motivation
Class, do you want to watch a video and “Yes Teacher”
listened to a song?

Okay, Before we will proceed to our next (Student will watch the video and
topic. sing along to the music)
Now let’s listen and watch the short video.
Class, you can sing along with the song.

D. Lesson Proper
Now let’s move on to our next lesson, our
lesson for today is all about minor scale.

Minor scales are an important component

of musical theory, analysis, composition,
and technique.
They have different sounds and structures
from major scales but are very closely
related to them.

Class, Are you still familiar with the major “Yes, Teacher.”
scales and key signatures that I will discuss
in the last meeting?

Very Good!

It’s important to know that familiarity with

major scales and key signatures is
fundamental to understanding minor
scales.

Major and minor scales are so closely

related, that we say that every major scale
has a relative minor scale and every minor
scale has a relative major scale.
Consider C major and its relative minor
scale A Minor, and notice that they’re built
using the exact same notes.

in fact, if we arrange the notes like this and

combine the scales it’s clear that they’re
basically the same scale just starting in a
different place.

Also, the Minor Scale is third note is

always a half step lower than the third note
of the major scale with the same name (B
major and B minor). There are three
different types of minor scales: natural
minor, harmonic minor, and melodic
minor. These three types of minor scales
should be thought of like flavors of ice
cream; ice cream is still ice cream
regardless of whether it is chocolate,
vanilla, strawberry, etc. Likewise, a work
is simply “minor” or “in minor”; musicians
do not consider music to be “in” a specific
type of minor scale natural, harmonic, or
melodic. In other words, while there are
three minor scales, minor keys, and minor
key signatures are always identified as
simply “minor” (“A minor,” “D minor,”
etc.) and are based on the natural minor
scale.

The three different types of minor scales

are useful categories primarily for
instrumental performers. Learning to play
the different types of minor scales on
instruments allows performers to become
familiar with the minor patterns most
commonly used in Western classical
music. Just like major scales, minor scales
are named for their first note (including the
accidental, if any), which is also their last
note.

E. Application
Natural Minor

The natural minor form of the minor scale

consists of an ordered collection of half
and whole steps with the ascending
succession W-H-W-W-H-W-W, as shown
here in the example, Each whole step is
labeled with a square bracket and “W,” and
each half step is labeled with an angled
bracket and “H.”

Class I play the music and please Listen

carefully. After that, I will be asking you
some Questions.
(The students remained silent, and
(Teacher will play the music) they listen carefully to the music.)

Class, what do you notice in the piano

music?

Yes Vince, can you share what you noticed “The natural minor scale has an
in the music? ascending and descending half-step
and whole-step pattern.”

Very good!

We notice here that the half and whole-step

pattern of the natural minor form of the
minor scale is the same ascending and
descending.

The second one is Harmonic Minor

The harmonic minor form of the minor

scale consists of an ordered collection of
half and whole steps in the ascending
succession W-H-W-W-H-3Hs-H (“3Hs” =
3 half steps), Look at the example here,
The curved bracket represents a distance of
three half steps (or a whole step plus a half
step).

I play the music and please Listen

carefully. Again I will be asking you a
Question.

(Teacher will play the music) (The students remained silent, and
they listen carefully to the music.)
Ok Charm, what did you notice in the
music? “I think it has an ascending and
descending with half and whole-step
pattern.”

Very Good Charm!

We notice class, that the half and whole-

step pattern of the harmonic minor form of
the minor scale is the same ascending and
descending.

And the last one is Melodic Minor

As you can see in the example the melodic

minor form of the minor scale consists of
an ordered collection of half and whole
steps in the ascending succession
W-H-W-W-W-W-H and the descending
succession W-W-H-W-W-H-W. (The students remained silent, and
they listen carefully to the music.)
I will play again the piano music and listen
carefully.

(Teacher will play the music) “It has different ascending and
descending patterns teacher.”
Kevin, what did you notice in the music?

Yes Very Good Kevin!

In the melodic minor form, we notice that

it has different ascending and descending
patterns: the ascending pattern is unique to
the melodic minor form, while the
descending pattern is the same as the
natural form.

F. Generalization
Now I will show the four versions of a C
scale-major, natural minor, harmonic
minor, and melodic minor. Listen
carefully, noting the aural differences
between the scales.
(Teacher will play the music)

Take note, that the minor scale's third note

is always a half step lower than the third
note of the major scale with the same
name.
There are three variations on the minor
scale: natural minor, harmonic minor, and
melodic minor.
Each minor scale is an ordered collection
of half and whole steps, as follows:
 Natural minor: W-H-W-W-H-W-W
(ascending)
 Harmonic minor:
W-H-W-W-H-3Hs-H (ascending)
 Melodic minor:
W-H-W-W-W-W-H (ascending)
and W-W-H-W-W-H-W
(descending).

And that's all our lesson for today, Thank

you for listening.
Take care of yourselves when you go
home. see you, tomorrow class.
Bye!
