My Reflection 1
Learning Theology through the years of my education has greatly influenced me and got
me familiarized with the study of the nature of God and religious belief. Having this knowledge
has also enabled me to be open to different beliefs of religions, most especially to the
divineness of Christianity. Furthermore, over the past few years, my view of Theology has
changed from unappreciative to appreciative, while developing an understanding of the
importance of growing in my Theologica knowledge, not only to become closer to my Creator,
but to be able to practically integrate Theology into my everyday life.
The Sanctity of Life is already a familiar word to me; it reflects the belief that, because
humans are created in the image of God, human life is inherently sacred and should be
protected and honored at all times. While God gave humanity the right to kill and consume other
kinds of life, the act of killing other humans is expressly forbidden, with the penalty of death –
these are all based on the book of Genesis. Through this, I learned that the Sanctity of Life
means that humanity is more sacred than the rest of creation. Human life is not holy in the same
sense that God is holy. Only God is holy in and of Himself. While I reflect on this, theology has
also taught me the meaning of “only God can decide when life begins and ends” whereas in the
way that I understand it, only God who created all life has the right to take it away; the belief in
the sanity of life is a very important element of the Christian faith. Apart from the fact that God
has granted us life, follow along the love that comes with it. The love of God and the love of
neighbor has such a compelling connection, where in fact, according to Mark 12:21: “You shall
love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these”. There are
a lot more readings and verses that I have learned while I study theology, but only in this
reflection I have learned the central message of the parable of the Good Samaritan – this too
has a great connection with the love of God and love of neighbor. Whereas, Jesus taught his
followers to love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus was asked to confirm what he meant by the
word “neighbor”. This is when he told the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37), to
explain that people should love everyone, including their enemies. It is easy to love friends and
family, but it is much more difficult to love those who you may not get along with, or even those
who may harm or hurt you. To show love to your enemies is to truly love as Christ did.
Through this reflection, I have learned and realized a lot more about life, the Bible and
other outside resources in order to prove that Christ is actively involved in His creation. As I
continued to research, I discovered how great His desire is to know me and the immeasurable
amount of power He contains in order to do so. As I continued to grow in my understanding of
God, my relationship with Him began to flourish as well.
