Sample Problems in Bouyancy

The document provides solutions to two fluid mechanics assignment problems. 1) It calculates the weight of a barge with a trapezoidal cross-section that draws 1.8m of water as 186,300kg, and finds the draft would be 2.41m if 84,500kg of stone is added. 2) It finds the vertical pull required to lift a concrete cube weighing 150lb in air that rests on the bottom of a tank filled with 16ft of sea water is 13,251.2lb.

FLUID MECHANICS (Assignment)

1. A barge 3m deep has a trape zooidal cross-section of 9.0m top width and 6.0m bottom width.
The barge is 15m long and its ends are vertical.

Determine:

a.) Its weight if it draws 1.8m water;

b.) the draft if 84, 500kg of stone is placed in the barge
