Preparation before starting

> Before starting:

• make sure that the pipe is completely filled with the fluid.

• Choose the right place for measuring point!

> observing inlet / outlet distances to disturbances (elbows, pumps, valves etc.)
according to manual recommendations

• Control pipe surfaces:

> surface should be reasonably clean and smooth

• Transducers should not be mounted in vicinity of welds or rough surface

• > see: recommendations in the manual! <

Transducer selection for liquids

Shear wave transducers:

• Typically used for liquids

• High Pressure / thick wall gas applications
• High amplitude signals work well on high pressure gas
• Plastic pipes, hoses, other metals than steel

Seite 10

Minimum wall thickness requirement for Shearwave Transducers

For some special Liquid Applications, Lamb Wave Transducers could be an option!
e.g. highly viscous liquids, high flow velocities, changing liquids (e.g. concentration)

Reset to factory settings (INIT)

Initialization (reset to factory settings)

During an initialization (INIT) of the transmitter, the settings in the program branches Parameter and Output Options and some of
the settings in the program branch Special Funct. are reset to the default settings of the manufacturer.

2 methods:

1. While switching on the transmitter: keep keys BRK and C pressed (long press).

2. During the operation of the transmitter: press keys BRK, C and ENTER at the same time. A RESET is executed. Release
key ENTER only. Keep keys BRK and C pressed.

Transducer mounting

- fix the transducers tight to the pipe with a proper alignment:

Seite 52
Transducer mounting

For horizontal pipes: avoid top or bottom mounting

bottom….
Seite 53
Transducer mounting

- Recommended position for horizontal pipes:

> on left or right side, beetween an angle of 45° up to 125° (shown: 90°)

Seite 54
Transducer mounting

For vertical pipes: the position is not really relevant, but care about the alignment!

Seite 55
Please do not do this....

Seite 56
Start measuring

- press:

- Following value should be controlled:

- Amplitude S > II
- Quality Q >IIIIIIII (Signal beam constant in the „rear third“)
- SCNR >> 20 dB / 30 dB (optimum)
- SNR >> 20 dB / 30 dB (optimum)
- Gain <<94dB GAIN

Seite 58
Assessment of Measurement

How to be sure that the measuring results are trustable ?

1. Sound speed: no strong deviation from the theorietical sound speed of the
fluid
• c- range indication in FLUXUS display

2. SCNR > 30dB for full accuracy

• Available on display at measurement startup
• „green“ arrow in FluxDiag

- Press Button for devices with keypad

- SNAPSHOT (number is shown)

Seite 63
Noisetrek (Hybrid Doppler)

Measuring in NoiseTrek mode allows to measure if the standard Transit Time mode can not measure
due to too much particles’ in the fluid (i.e. gas bubbles and/or solid particles).

To Enable:

Noisetrek switch during measurement: Press “MODE”

button during
measurement

Seite 64
Typically facts of a fail measurement

-Following points should be checked:

- all parameters set correct?

- customer information correct and believable?
- wrong transducer distances? (exact distance absolutely necessary!)
- wrong number of sound paths? (reflection or direct mode?)
- correct alignment of the transducers? (axial and horizontal?)
- pipe system completely filled?
- no transducer coupling (gel/viton rubber) to pipe?
- bad pipe surface? (corrosion, scale or loose paint removed?)
- wrong choice for the measuring place? (Observing inlet / outlet distances?)
- wrong transducer for the pipe size, or the medium?
- values for SNR / SCNR / Gain at optimum values?
- values (bargraph) for quality (Q) and signal (S) high enough?
- values steady shown?
