Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English 9

Teacher: Gay I. Alonzo

I. Learning Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. identify the various communicative styles;
b. create short conversations out of the given communication
situations using appropriate communicative style;
c. appreciate the importance of a suitable approach in
communication for every situation, person, or place; and
d. perform different tasks that show various communicative styles
using modals and conditional sentences.

II. Learning Content


Topic: a. Communicative Styles
b. Types of Communicative Styles
1. Intimate – Intimate speech is used in conversations between people
who are very close and know each other quite well because they have
maximum shared background information like couples, family, and best
friends.
2. Formal – Formal speeches are straightforward speeches. It has been
prepared beforehand. It avoids slang terminologies. Its content is well-
structured, logically sequenced, and strongly coherent.
3. Casual – The casual style is used in conversation between friends and
peers who have something to share and have shared background
information but don’t have close relations.
4. Consultative – This style is used in semi-formal communication.
Sentences end up being shorter and more spontaneous. The speaker
does not usually plan what he (or she) wants to say.
5. Frozen – It is the most formal communicative style usually used during
formal events and ceremonies. It does not require any feedback from the
audience. It is called frozen because it already has a pattern and cannot
be changed. It can also be found in historical documents.

Activity 3: Act It Out!


Directions: Role-play the created conversations about the 5 situations in the Speak,
Talk, Converse activity. Use the appropriate styles and indicate the level of formality.
Your skit will be graded through the rubric below.

Remarks:
a. I integrate the Communicative Competence Model specifically to the three areas of

Interactionism was also integrated into this learning plan. Social interaction with the
different people surrounding us can lead to various experiences in acquiring appropriate
language in different contexts.
