What is changing?

 Equally balanced papers for each tier


 Duration, total number of marks, weighting & style is same for
the two papers at each tier.
 New non-calculator paper at each tier
 Paper 1 (Core) and Paper 2 (Extended) will be non-calculator
papers.
 Helps students to communicate mathematically and show their
working.
 Helps students improve their fluency and confidence in
mathematical techniques.
 Most questions will be very familiar!
 No change in demand for the papers.
 Values chosen carefully to be appropriate.
 Clear and simple layout and format
 Making sure we continue to assess mathematical performance
not language skills.
What is changing?
 Updated, clear, detailed content
 No major changes to the content with strong progression
 Learning outcomes have been updated in-line across Cambridge Upper Secondary Mathematics
 Depth of teaching required for each learning outcomes has been clarified using the
Notes/Examples column.
 Better understanding for teachers and learners of what is expected and what is included.
 New formula sheet for all papers
 There will be a set of formulas given for each tier
 Same formula sheet series –on –series
 Reducing cognitive load but reinforcing an important skill
 Updated wording for Aims, AOs, and learner attributes
 Wording updated but meaning is the same.
 Mathematics is a key subject area for all our students and new wording reflects how the
syllabuses are coherent, aspirational and fair for all our students
What is staying the same?

 Amount of assessment
 The total duration, number of marks, and weighting will be the same.
 These are rebalanced across the two papers at each tier.
 The style of the questions will be familiar to teachers and candidates.

What has been added to Cambridge IGCSE Content?

 Core only:
 No substantial additions
 Inequalities

 exact trigonometric values in Trigonometry
 domain and range in functions
 -½ and ½ in the list of values for n in graphs of
functions of the form axn
What has been removed from the content?

 Core only:
 Add and subtract vectors
 Multiply a vector by a scalar

 congruence criteria (knowledge of congruence
itself is still in the syllabus)
How does this affect teaching?

 No change to teaching time


 Teachers should review the additional guidance and notes information in the
syllabus content.
 Check the changes for the relevant tiers in your schemes of work
 Help learners prepare with:
 Solving problems without a calculator.
 Showing working clearly
 selecting the correct formula from the formula sheet.
 Knowing how to use their calculator effectively and efficiently on the calculator paper.

What is changing?

 New non-calculator paper


 Paper 1 will be a non-calculator paper. Paper 2 will continue to assess calculator skills.
 Updated the content
 Indices and Surds becomes assumed knowledge
 New topic: Geometry of a Circle, which connects well with the rest of the content
 Renamed Differentiation and Integration as Calculus
 No other major changes to the content.
 Introduced a Notes and guidance column
 The Notes and guidance column explain more about the requirements of the learning outcomes.
 Updated the Aims, AOs, and learner attributes
 The wording has been updated but the meaning is the same.

 Update teaching plans to include Geometry of a Circle.
 Surds and indices becomes assumed knowledge. Won’t be assessed as focus of question
but may be needed to answer other questions
