FS 2 – Learning Episode 6: Enhancing a Face-to-Face Environment

Revisit the Infographics

Notice the physical arrangement found in two classroom spaces. Spot the similarities and differences.

Similarities Differences
Helps students to stay focused Round tables are great for small
and on-task groups to use, because each
student is able to contribute
equally to a central project or
activity
Both provide students with Round tables also have more
access to various resources, room since chairs can be more
such as textbooks, materials, spaced out around the table
and technology, which can
enhance their learning
experience
Can have a positive impact on In the traditional seating,
student behavior, academic students cannot all see the
performance and class faces of their classmates nor
participation can the teacher see all of their
faces

Participate and Assist

Given the concepts and the infographic, how can you participate and assist in a face-to-face learning
environment?

To be an effective teacher in a face-to-face learning environment, one must encourage learner

participation, use effective communication techniques, and manage time and difficult classroom
situations. Also, create experiences that maximize participants’ attention and accelerate learning
through manipulating the classroom environment such as seating arrangements or set-up.

Notice
Having been exposed to the traditional classrooms in your basic education, it seems that everything is
familiar. However, as teaching learning theories evolve over time there are changes that are taking
place.

What changes have you noticed in the face-to-face classroom spaces?

What do you think brought the changes in the face-to-face learning environment now?

I think the reason why there are

changes in the face-to-face
learning environment is because
we
are now incorporating
technology to the classroom
and it provides effective
learning
environments.

There are changes in this learning environment because modern education incorporates digital
technology and innovations to the classroom that provides effect learning experience for students.

From the changes that you identified, choose one that you can do. How will you do it?

I will do my best to create a classroom environment that allows us to be creative and effective using
digital tools available and feasible to acquire. The most common and simple way to do this is to use a
projector for lectures created on PowerPoint or any other platform that creates digital visuals. I will also
avoid putting distractions in the classroom or lessen it.

Do you think making the learning environment conducive for a face-to-face classroom will enable the
learners to achieve better learning outcomes? _____ Explain your answer.

It will help open children's minds, enable them to be more receptive to different perspectives, and
develop dynamic thinking. It also helps students develop the skill and values to work collaboratively with
each other and develop communication skills, preparing them for the real world which is the end goal of
modern teaching.

Observe

What common problem have I noticed in a face-to-face learning environment?

Distractions like noise, litter, and humidity in the room – it could get really hot during the summer.

Can I translate this problem into a question?

What are ways to effectively lessen or avoid distractions in the classroom?

Reflect

How would I solve the problem?

Use creative ways to retain the student’s attention like ice breakers. Implement classroom rules to keep
the noise minimal and the room tidy.

Will it improve my teaching? How?

Yes, because handling a class face-to-face is challenging and will definitely test your flexibility, creativity,
resourcefulness, and management skills which helps develop teaching ability.

Plan

What will I do to solve the problem? Describe briefly how you will do it.

Implementing rules helps you to keep classroom behavior in check and your students on task. It sets
clear expectations for student behavior. One of the elements of a well-managed classroom is clear
expectations about how students should behave. Ice breakers should be able to keep students attentive.
