2. M-View
1. By Selection: This type creates a closed set. Once these entities have been picked, the set is closed,
and a new entity will not be included in the set unless the set itself is edited.
2. By Criteria: This is a dynamic type of set. Once the a query has been made based on the attributes of
the entities, every new entity, which matches the query, is added to the set. Every new operation
referring to this set includes this new entity.
Open the Sets tool by clicking the Sets tab in the Features Tree.
The Archive set contains Datums and/or Wireframe entities used to build features in Cimatron.
In this case the original plane can be seen along with the sketch used to place Mold Ejector Pins.
There is normally no need to see these entities but can be a quick guide to see the entities original sketch.
Select Curves/Circle.
Select Solid/New/Extrude, select one of the circles and enter a delta of 20.
Hide the Cylinders set and notice how the All Entities set now shows Mixed mode.
The Mixed mode status appears when a sets entities are both hidden and visible in the display area i.e. in
our case the Cylinders set is hidden while the original Clip Core part is still visible in the display area.
All newly created entities will automatically be entered into the All Entities set.
The Cylinders set is now active. This can be seen by its Bold status in the Sets tree.
¨
Note that the Cylinders set is now shown in Mixed mode, as shown below.
All new features are automatically added to the active set. In our case the set was hidden in the previous
topic, however the sweep face (which belongs to the set) is visible.
In order for entities not to be added to an active set, active the All Entities set.
Select View/Settings/Show From Selected Sets, or right click on the Cylinders set and select Show
From Selected Sets.
The two cylinders are now visible i.e. entities relevant to the selected (highlighted) set.
Manipulation
Show the All Entities set.
The cylinder created belongs to both the Runner set and the Cylinders set (due to the Cylinders set being
active).
Manipulation 2
Hide the Runner set and notice the Cylinders set switch to Mixed mode.
Select Solid/Add/Revolve, open the sketcher and on the face indicated draw the following sketch using the
cylinders edges as a reference:
The revolve belongs to the Runner set and the Cylinders set.
Create a NEW revolve (Solid/New Revolve) on the other side of the cylinder.
The visible entity is the revolve, which was created when the Runner set was active and therefore belongs to
this set.
Update Mode
When creating these sets, in this exercise, the update option is by default Automatic.
The Runner set appears hidden, as it has not been updated with the new face.
The set appears in Mixed mode as not all its entities are visible.
When the Feature Tree is in use the Sets update mode is ALWAYS set to Manual, to save calculation time.
When returning to the Sets Tree the sets are automatically updated.
Move Entities
Activate and show only the All Entities set i.e. hide all the sets created.
Create a new set containing the top face of the Clip Core part.
Pick the Core Part object in the display, right click on the Top Face set and select Move Entities.
Move Entities moves all selected entities to the highlighted set ONLY.
Using the Attach Entities/ Detach Entities options ensures entities REMAIN in their original sets as well as
moving to the highlighted set.
Highlight the Cylinders and Top Face sets in the Sets tree (Using the Ctrl key) and select Show.
Cimatron’s default Sets template can be seen in the Sets tree. This saves time in organizing Cimatron
documents.
Import the Core Part file to the new document and notice the sets are updated.
Tutorial Examples
Further examples of various uses of the Sets function can be found in the following Tutorials:
M-View
An M-View (Modeling View) is a user-defined view of entities which includes a profile of display parameters,
section parameters, drafting parameters, etc. Visibility, orientation as well as section-lines can be defined for
each view.
Show the All Entities set and select the M-View tab.
Right click in the M-View tree and select New M-View from the popup menu.
Orientation
Rotate and position the part in the display, as shown below:
Click on the Hide icon and drag a box from left to right around the faces shown below:
All the M-View parameters have been restored (Orientation, Zoom and Visibility).
The Orientation and Zoom parameters (ZPR) ONLY can be restored by clicking ONCE on the Camera icon.
Zoom
In the M-View tree, toggle the Zoom to selection icon to Zoom All icon.
Toggling the zoom mode switches the M-View’s zoom status between the M-View default display size (and
position) and the Zoom All size.
Selecting the Zoom to selection status ensures the M-View reverts to its saved zoom state.
Selecting the Zoom All status ensures the M-View reverts to its Zoom All state.
The Unassigned set, includes entities that are not included in sets created e.g. the sketch created above.
Flip the section line direction so it appears as shown below and click OK in the Feature Guide.
The Start point and End point of the section line can be toggled by clicking on either end of the section line.
Drafting
Open the Drafting application, select the View Creation icon and load the Clip Core part from the
CimatronE Explorer.
In the View Creation dialog, click on the Derived View icon and select the Top view.
Assembly Environment
Sets
Sets Tabs
Unpack the clip mold Assembly.ctf (located in the \\ Tutorial Work Files \ Design directory).
Once the Unpack operation has been completed, click OK in the dialog and open the clip mold Assembly
from the Cimatron E Explorer
The catalog components keep their connections according to the relative path in which they were saved
(C:\Cimatron\CimatronE\Catalogs). If the catalog components have been placed location not relative to this path,
the Connection Status dialog will appear.
If you do not have a Hasco Catalog on your computer press the Continue button.
Click HERE to find out how to reconnect the catalog components, to those found on your computer.
The Sets tab is available in the Assembly tree and in the Features tree (which shows assembly operations).
The Sets created in the Assembly tree are relevant ONLY to the MAIN ASSEMBLY.
The M-View tab is available only in the Features tree. The tab will display M-Views depending on which
component is active in the assembly.
The M-Views created when a part is active are relevant to the Part AND to the entire Assembly.
In the Feature tree switch to the Sets tree, right click and select New Set, as shown in the picture below.
When a face of an object is picked within an active assembly the whole object is selected.
Under the Sub-Category criteria group select the Cap Screw criteria.
The two By Criteria options used in this exercise effect ONLY the assembly and not the individual
components.
Hide the All Entities set and show the Red set.
Display the Sets tree and select a face of the K11 plate.
Visibility
Use the Clip Core Assembly from the last exercise and with the Fixed Side and Runner system hidden,
create the M-View shown below:
Click on the M-View tab at the bottom left of the screen, right click in the M-View Tree and select New M-
View.
Notice only the assembly components displayed while creating the M-View are displayed.
Edit
Verify the Mold Design Guide is open at the right of the screen. If not select View / Panes / Guides / Mold
Design Guide.
Select the screw created (either in the Assembly tree or in the Display), right click and select Hide Other.
Add the screw (using the Add this component function) to top face of the K11 plate.
Click on the second M-View created and notice only the screw created in the Movable Side is displayed
and click OK in the Add from Catalog Feature Guide.
The resulting arrangement of the mold, is as seen when using the rearrange function.
Section Off
Show M-View1.
The Active part shown here was hidden for easier drawing of the sketch.
All (catalog) components with a Section On/Off status are displayed at this point.
From the General Preferences menu, select the M-View Section option. Choose Semi Transparent. This
option defines the sectioned faces with 50% transparency, as shown in the picture below:
We will see the Section On/Off feature in the drafting application in the next topic.
Create the following M-View using the second sketch created as the section line.
Verify the Start Point of the Section Line appears as in the picture below:
Drafting
Open the Drafting application, select the View Creation icon and load the saved Assembly (clip mold.elt)
from the Cimatron E Explorer.
The Plug and Divert Coupling Unit circled do not have their section shown.
