Assignment 1 Computer Graphics v2

1) The document provides instructions for students submitting an assignment on parts modelling using CAD software. It includes learning outcomes and assessment criteria related to 3D modelling and 2D technical drawings. 2) Students must select one component from a list to create a 3D CAD model, calculate its mass properties, and produce 2D drawings including standard views, dimensions, and annotations according to international standards. 3) Feedback forms are provided for assessors to evaluate student work, identify strengths and limitations, and provide guidance for improvements in future assignments. Resubmissions will receive focussed feedback only on revised content.

STUDENT DECLARATION
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is a particular form of cheating. Plagiarism must be avoided at all costs and students who break the rules,
however innocently, may be penalised. It is your responsibility to ensure that you understand correct referencing
practices. As a university-level student, you are expected to use appropriate references throughout and keep
carefully detailed notes of all your sources of materials for material you have used in your work, including any
material downloaded from the Internet. Please consult the relevant unit lecturer or your course tutor if you need
any further advice.
Student Declaration
Student declaration
I certify that the assignment submission is entirely my own work and I fully understand the consequences of
plagiarism. I understand that making a false declaration is a form of malpractice.

Also, I acknowledge that I have received the feedback about my work from the assessor.

Scenario
Suppose you are a technologist in the Engineering department of an Automotive Feeding
Industry. During the phase of production of a vehicle, it was required to study the possibility of
manufacturing vehicle components. You need to select ONLY one component from the given
components “Connecting Rod or Wheel Rim” to perform the following:
Firstly, study the given components for functionality.
Secondly, use computer-aided design (CAD) software to model the given components in 3D
parts.
Finally, Produce a working drawing for the 3D CAD model with full annotations and according
to the mentioned International System.

Task No.01

Your task is to select ONLY ONE component from below to:

1.1 Create a 3D CAD model for one of the given parts, using a
sketch-based feature.
1.2 Use the SolidWorks features to create a full 3D model for
the given component; save the model as “Part_1”.
1.3 Give evidence of where mathematical calculation has aided
the geometric development of the component within the
production of the CAD model.
1.4 Calculate the mass of the given component in grams using
the CAD software's physical properties, assume the
material is Aluminum Alloy 1060 of density 2700 kg/m3.
1.5 Enhance the 3D model using SolidWorks advanced features
(Revolve or Pattern or mirror).
1.6 Use the 3D model to create 2D drawings of the given
component; showing the standard views (Front – Right
Hand Side – Plan) with the appropriate scale on a size A3
sheet; save the file “Drawing_1.pdf”.
1.7 Include the appropriate dimensions and needed annotations
in the 2D drawing sheet.
1.8 Create a detailed drawing for the 3D model showing a
complete frontal section view.
1.9 create a working drawing for the 3D model using the
“Deutsches Institut für Normung” DIN Standard with an
appropriate scale and include annotations and dimensions;
save the file as “Drawing_2.pdf”.
