JOINT MASTER PROGRAMME IN MARINE
BIOTECHNOLOGY
1. What is the deadline for Erasmus Mundus Scholarship?
28th of February 2023

2. When will the classes start?


11 of September of 2023

3. What are the tuition fees per year?


5000 € per year for citizens and permanent residents of EU, N. Macedonia, Serbia,
Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey.
9000 € per year for non-EU citizens.

4. My certificate of English has more than 2 years, is it valid?


The certificate must be issued during the last 2 years.

5. Is Duolingo a valid test?


No. Duolingo is not a valid test. English language proficiency has to be at least CEFR B2,
IELTS 6.5 (at least 6 in any skill overall speaking, writing, listening and reading).

6. Is an Oxford placement test valid as English language proficiency?


No. I placement test itself is not valid because this test is not covering all skills.

7. Do the letters of recommendation have to be dated?


The letters must be not older than 6 months, signed, they must contain a date and they
must be on letterhead paper, and include the referee’s signature or official stamp.

8. I have submitted my application, but I would like to upload new documents, is it


possible?
Yes, it is possible, just send an email to admission.mb@eu-conexus.eu

9. I have all my documents in my origin language, could I upload the documents directly?
All documents, if not in English or bilingual, when English is one of the languages, shall
be duly translated and notary verified (sworn translation).

10. My referees want to upload the recommendation letters directly to the application
platform, is it possible?
No. All the application documents have to be upload by the applicant.

11. What is included in the letter from the University stating that my Bachelor gives access
to master’s studies?
This is a simple document from your university stating that you already finished your
Bachelor studies in their institution, and that Diploma give you access to a Master cycle.
It is helpful to verify that your Diploma is valid.
12. I am in the last year of my Bachelor degree, can I apply?
If the diploma is not received yet, the applicant shall indicate when it is expected to be
received or provide the confirmation from university about completing Bachelor
studies*

* Conditional offers: An applicant who is completing the final year of his/her first degree or who
has yet to provide the required evidence of proficiency in English will be considered for entry to
the JMPMB but will not receive an unconditional offer of a place on the programme until it is
received his/her final degree and/or English language test results. In such cases the applicant may
be offered a conditional admission on finishing Bachelor’s degree at the required grade and/or
obtaining the required English language test results. This documentation must be submitted to
the EU-CONEXUS Master Officer. If Diploma of Bachelor degree is issued with the delay, a
provisional diploma or letter from University must be submitted

13. If I still don’t have my English test results at the moment of my application, could I
apply?
If at the moment of application, it is not possible to provide proof of language
qualification, applications will still be accepted but any offer of a place on the
programme or of a scholarship will be conditional until the test result is received &
verified by Selection Committee*

14. All the documents listed in article 4 (Application documents) are necessary?
Yes, all the documents required are necessary.

15. The motivation letter and the statement of purpose are the same document?
No, they are two different documents and need to be upload, separately. In the
motivation letter you should expressed your motivation for marine biotechnology and
for this master specifically.
For the Statement of purpose, you should add your comments/justification about the
preference for the track (specialisation) in JMPMB.

16. I only have my identity card, could I apply?


One copy of the photo page of passport is required for non-Eu citizens, ID is for the EU
citizens only.
17. During the assessment of applications is taking into account just the grade of my
Bachelor?
No, not only. The grade of your bachelor’s degree and the statement of purpose is
evaluated from 0 to 40 points, and the professional/research experience and
extracurricular merits is evaluated between 0-10 points.

18. All my education was taught in English, would I need my English certificate?
English language proficiency: at least CEFR B2, IELTS 6.5 (at least 6 in any skill overall
speaking, writing, listening and reading) is required if English is not a native language or
language of previous Bachelor or Master studies. Your university must provide you a
document stating that the medium of instruction was English.

19. I have a bachelor's degree in microbiology; am I eligible to apply to the joint Master's
Programme in Marine Biotechnology?
The programme is open to the holders of a first cycle higher education degree (Bachelor
degree, or equivalent) in Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics (ISCED 05),
Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction (ISCED 07), Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries
and Veterinary (ISCED 08) and other similar fields of study as JMPMB from all countries.
The qualification must give access to the Master studies and be recognised by the
NARICs (National Academic Recognition Information Centres) of the Partners.

20. What is the interview about?


The interview takes approx. 25 minutes and is meant to evaluate the motivation and
personal skills by the Selection Committee, such as motivation, strength, disagreement,
aspirations, and cultural knowledge. Only 10 applicants from the same country with the
highest number of points but no less than 60 points will be invited to interview in each
of the rounds (round 1 Erasmus Mundus Scholarships and Self-funded, round 2 – Self-
funded and with partial scholarships).

21. I already participated in an Erasmus mundus mobility; could I obtain an Erasmus


mundus scholarship?
Yes, only the students who have previously obtained an EMJM scholarship are not
eligible to apply for an additional scholarship under the EMJM.

22. My university is providing me all the documents in my language of origin and the
translation into English, will I need a translation by the Spanish embassy?
No. When your university generates official documents in the origin language and
English at the same time, translation verified by the embassy is not necessary. But note
that this document has to be provide by the university have to be valid and official.

23. If I already have a master’s degree, could I apply for the JMPMB?
Yes.
24. What is a transcript of record/Diploma supplement?
This is an official and valid document provide by your university in language of origin
and an official translation into English showing full details of courses studied and
grades/marks obtained.

25. How many scholarships are available per country?


EU-CONEXUS Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters project requires to ensure geographical
balance – i.e. no more than 10% of the total number of scholarships awarded during
project implementation should be awarded to candidates from the same nationality
(this rule does not apply to top up scholarships for targeted regions of the world, if
applicable). The total number of scholarships per year are around 20.
