MTH501 Assignment No.1

This document contains solutions to two problems in linear algebra. Problem 1 solves for the inverse of a matrix A. It is shown that A-1 = BC. Problem 2 finds the inverse of a matrix where AB = I. It is shown that the inverse is A-1 = 1/sec2(x2/2), and the derivative of B = A-1 is calculated.

Problem: 01

Solution:

BA=C-1

Multiply B-1 both sides

B-1 BA = B-1 C-1

IA = B-1 C-1

By using the identity matrix property B-1 B=I

A= B-1 C-1

IA= A Identity matrix property

A= B-1 C-1

Take inverse on both sides

A-1= (B-1 C-1)-1

By applying property of inverse we get

A-1= BC

Problem: 02

Solution:
Given condition AB = I
A A-1 = I
B = A-1
