This document describes a GSM-based industrial automation system using Arduino that monitors three sensitive areas: fire, over temperature, and high humidity. Flame, temperature, and humidity sensors detect issues and inform the Arduino microcontroller. If thresholds are exceeded, the Arduino displays outputs on an LCD, sounds an alarm, activates a fan, shuts off a boiler, and sends SMS messages via GSM to notify operators. The system was designed with both software using Proteus and Arduino, and hardware by implementing and testing the sensors to protect industries from damage in a cost-effective way.

ABSTRACT/SUMMARY
Security and automation are the prime concern in our day to day life. The Ethiopian
government has given great attention to industrialization, thus the approach to industrial
automation is standardized nowadays. When industries are built it cost huge amount of money
starting from the construction phase, machineries installed, and human resource needed.
Therefore, in order to protect industries from damage, this paper proposes a GSM based
industrial automation system to monitor and control machineries and all over operations of the
industry in the industry. GSM technology is applied to provide communication media between
the system and the operator by the means of SMS message. This study mainly focuses on three
sensitive areas, which can harm an industry which are fire, over temperature and high humidity.
The system design includes both software and hardware implementation methods. The software
design is developed using Proteus 8.6 and Arduino programming software. Whereas the
hardware design is implemented and tested using flame, temperature and humidity sensors to
detect developing fire, over temperature and high humidity, respectively. Then the sensors will
inform the Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller, which will process and monitors the action.
When the detected value exceeds the assigned threshold, the Arduino sends commands to: LCD
to display the output, buzzer to alarm, fan to rotate, boiler to switch off and GSM module to
sending and Receiving message to the machine operator or any other concerned person .
