This snake care guide provides instructions for daily care tasks like checking the water bowl and temperature, outlines a feeding schedule of Sundays with mice that have been thawed for 30-45 minutes, and advises handling only on days before and after feeding. Key steps for feeding include preparing all materials beforehand, using prongs to offer a thawed mouse, and waiting until the snake is finished eating before returning it to the tank.

Everyday Care
There are certain actions that should be done every day to make sure Ziggy is
comfortable and happy. These are in no particular order, except for the time of
day.

● Check water bowl. Make sure to fill if mostly empty. You can just use the
sink water from the bathroom.
○ The water bowl can get filled with the substrate from the tank. If this
occurs, wash out the bowl with water and dry with a towel. Then,
refill and place back in the tank.
● Check tank temperature. The general rule is: daily temp < 70°, turn on
overhanging heat lamp; daily temp > 70°, turn off overhanging heat lamp.
The tank should be kept between 75° and 80° during the day.
○ Go to “Temperature Control” for information for extreme weather.
● Hold/interact with Ziggy. Only hold if he is already out/moving and on days
that do NOT directly precede or follow feeding days.

Feeding
Feeding Ziggy is pretty simple, but there are some rules to follow.

Things to consider:
● I usually feed him on sunday nights BUT, if you decide to change this,
make sure it stays consistent. You want to keep feeding time and handling
time separate and easy for boht you and ziggy to understand.
● He will usually be moving around/aware during feeding time. If not, you can
try to gently grab him from hiding or wait 30 more minutes to see if he’ll
become more active.
● You can ethier feed him 1 adult/small mouse (depending on brand) or 2
fuzzy mice depending on what is available.
● Make sure all feeding materials are ready BEFORE taking him out of the
tank. This minimizes stress for both you and Ziggy.
● IF ziggy ius not eating , it is usually because he is either 1) about to shed,
2) about to go into burmutation or 3) is stressed. Follow
“Shedding/Burmutation” for more info.

Step by Step:
1. Grab mouse from freezer and place under heating lamp for 30-45 minutes.
2. After 30-45 minutes is over, CHECK to make sure the mouse is no longer
frozen. It can still be slightly cold, but there can be no hard/frozen parts of
the mouse left.
3. Grab plastic container, metal prongs, and defrosted mouse. Make sure
there is paper towel on the bottom of the container.
4. Grab ziggy and place him in the container, closing the lid once he is in.
5. Grab mouse with prongs and open container. Keep fingers away from tip of
prong.
6. Tap or hold mouse in front of Ziggy’s nose until he strike and grabs the
mouse.
a. IF he does not take the mouse, try to rub it on his nose or poke the
mouse to his nose a couple times. This will usually work and he will
bite. IF he still DOES NOT bite, you will have to throw the mouse
away and try to feed him again in a couple days.
7. Place lid on the container ad place small rock on top to make sure it is
secure.
8. Wait until Ziggy is finished eating (can take between 15-25 minutes).
9. Gently place Ziggy back inot his tank and make sure door is secured.
